R. Karbauskis admits that he appreciates the fact that those who are unhappy with the chairman of the committee belonging to the Freedom Party raised more than 300 thousand. firms. According to the politician, this forces the “peasants” to continue the initiative and together with colleagues from the opposition to the Seimas to prepare a resolution aimed at removing TV Raskevičius from his current position on the committee.

In a comment made to Elta, the politician mentioned what personally worried him about the current chairman of the Human Rights Committee and why the “peasants” did not prepare a resolution when 700 cultural representatives addressed the Seimas demanding that Petras Gražulis, a parliamentarian with rhetorical homophobia, not being included in the Culture Committee.

The “peasants” support the initiative, but did not help collect signatures

R. Karbauskis, responding to the suspicions expressed by V. Čmilytė-Nielsen, that “peasants” could have helped to collect signatures for TV Raskevičius, stated that he found out about the initiative only after the end of this campaign.

“I found out about the signatures in general when they were already collected. I heard they were compiled, but hadn’t even seen the text. I saw it when the signatures had already been collected, ”R. Karbauskis told Eltai.

According to the politician, in general, he became interested in the initiative regarding TV Raskevičius only in the last week, when the collected signatures could not be personally delivered to the President of the Seimas.

“Then I was surprised: why doesn’t the Speaker of the Seimas accept so many signatures? So I wondered what the text would be here. I thought maybe something was wrong there. The lawyers then looked at the text, because I didn’t find any problem reading it. For example, having homophobic or similar. The lawyers confirmed that there was none of that and then we put this issue on the agenda of the shadow government. We wanted to show that this is important to us, “said R. Karbauskis, admitting that he himself he would have put his signature behind this initiative that sparked the discussions, if he had had the opportunity.

“I personally would have signed if I had to sign or not. I would have signed it with courage, because I fully support what is written there,” said R. Karbauskis, who later pointed out in the conversation that he is not and will never be homophobic.

And those who signed TV Raskevičius to be removed from his post as chairman of the committee said a politician who did not hide his sexual orientation discredited the constitutionally protected family institute made up of a man and a woman, which represented only one interest group. , etc. .

R. Karbauskis also brought up the Seimas toilet issue as a matter of concern. It was TV Raskevičius who started the speeches to install neutral toilets in parliament.
Meanwhile, R. Karbauskis did not mention that TV Raskevičius’ work in organizing committee meetings in the Human Rights Committee would be cause for concern.

The signatures collected force the Seimas to decide: already preparing a resolution on television Raskevičius R. Karbauskis agreed with the president of Seimas V. Čmilyte-Nielsen that at least the signatures formally collected do not mean anything yet. However, according to him, the signed initiative seems to force Seimas politicians to decide whether TV Raskevičius, which does not adapt to certain groups in society, can remain in the position of head of the parliamentary commission.

According to the leader of the “peasants”, the members of the Seimas could adopt a resolution on this issue.

“In our opinion, it is necessary to prepare a resolution for voting in the Seimas. The resolution would mean that the man has to resign,” he said.

According to R. Karbauskis, the “peasant” and “worker” groups have already begun to prepare a draft resolution of this type.

“People in our group are working on these documents, as far as I know, people from the Labor Party. This is the legal path that the Seimas can take. If the majority of the Seimas think that all is well, they will vote to reject this resolution. But if that happens in another way, the resolution will be adopted. Finally, the public will see the determination of the members of the Seimas on this issue, “said R. Karbauskis.

He explained why he had not prepared a resolution on P. Gražulis

R. Karbauskis, who was declared prime minister in the shadow of “peasants”, admitted that the “peasants” would take the initiative to remove TV Raskevičius from the position of the committee, as the initiative group gathered several hundred thousand signatures.

However, when asked why no analogous action was taken when 700 cultural representatives addressed the Seimas demanding that the eccentric and homophobic rhetoric MP Petras Gražulis not be included in the Culture Committee, he said that these were difficult issues to discuss. compare. After all, according to R. Karbauskis, when talking about whether P. Gražulis’ statements do not offend or discriminate against separate groups in society, it is necessary to pay attention to several important nuances.
First, R. Karbauskis pointed out, the rulers themselves tend to discriminate against P. Gražulis.

“We could speak of the opposite: a person who, because of his beliefs, tends to humiliate his current position,” said R. Karbauskis.

On the other hand, explained R. Karbauskis, it should be noted that not only the statements of P. Gražulis can offend representatives of the field of Culture or offend certain groups of society. According to him, both he and the “peasants” in general, while in power, suffered harassment by people expressing their outrage at the rhetoric of P. Gražulis.

“Some politicians have called us and the electorate storks. Name 300 thousand. In the peasant heads of the “peasant” voters, it is probably an insult. We need to have the same standards. We have a double standard. As soon as someone touches … I do not defend Gražulis’ statements, which may be homophobic. But it must be remembered here that the same politicians who accuse him also say in one way or another that they themselves are no less offensive to others, ”explained R. Karbauskis.

ELTA recalls that on Tuesday, the Spokespersons of the Seimas presented themselves as public figures with the signatures collected online on the removal of TV Raskevičius from the post of Chairman of the Human Rights Committee. They say they have gathered 365,000 people who support the initiative. firms.

The question of the fate of TV Raskevičius in office was raised at a government meeting in the shadow of the Lithuanian Peasants and Greens Union (LVŽS) on Monday. The shadow cabinet of the Cabinet of Ministers agreed almost unanimously on the need to help those who present themselves as public figures, who demand the resignation of the chairman of the Seimas Human Rights Committee who does not hide his sexual orientation.
