“It is suspected that the medical institution had hidden income: according to preliminary data, the unaccounted amount may amount to around one million euros,” Dalia Pocienė, chief prosecutor of the Klaipėda Regional Prosecutor’s Office, told a press conference on Thursday.

Those responsible for the institution were arrested

According to the prosecutor, the suspects interviewed are in contact with law enforcement.

“Nine people were arrested. They remain in detention at this time. 12 people have been granted suspect status and interviews and other procedural actions are currently being carried out,” said D. Pocienė.

According to Raimondas Vaitkevičius, Deputy Chief of the Klaipėda County Main Police Station, the company director, the directors and the persons responsible for finance and accounting were arrested.

The pre-trial investigation is conducted in relation to possible criminal acts committed by the company administrators and others in connection with the fraudulent financial accounting of the company.

According to the police, the pre-trial investigation included searches at the company’s facilities in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaip, da, the homes, vehicles and other places of the detainees.

“The raids were carried out in a private medical services company and in the residences and cars of its employees and managers,” said the prosecutor.

“The money received from the patients was not accounted for and according to the data we have, the owners and managers of the company misappropriated the money and the wages were paid,” said R. Vaitkevičius.

A large force of officers worked

It is also suspected that these deliberately incorrect data on income, profits or assets were subsequently recorded when submitting declarations to the State Tax Inspection.

Possible harm to the State will be identified at a later stage of the investigation.

“The country that suffered the most was the tax-free state,” said a police spokesman.

A pre-trial investigation is currently underway for the company’s fraudulent accounting, complicity and complicity in accounting, misrepresentation of income, earnings, assets, or their use and misuse.

The pre-trial investigation is led and organized by the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Klaipėda Regional Public Prosecutor’s Office, led by officers from the Economic Crimes Investigation Board of the Criminal Police, together with the Bureau of Criminal Police, Kaunas County Police Economic Crimes Investigation Board, State Tax Inspection and Financial Crimes Investigation Service.

The steps in the process are still ongoing.

“The agents have been working practically all day since yesterday and the process continues today,” the prosecutor said.
