To this end, the members of Seimas Česlavas Olševskis, Rita Tamašunienė and Beata Petkevič registered a draft amendment to the Law on the Registration, Confession, Census and Protection of Confessors of Persons who Surreptitiously Collaborated with the Special Services of the former USSR.

According to them, the adoption of the amendments to the law would publish all persons (both confessed and unconfessed) who secretly cooperate with the special services of the USSR and “forever overthrow the shameful book of the KGB and the possible manipulations and speculations on the matter, especially before the elections. “

“It is clear that the unresolved issue of lustration raises questions for citizens. Some of them, who also hold high positions in state government structures and the judiciary, can be blackmailed and exploited by those who had access to information files. (…) Individuals who have cooperated with the KGB, by being classified when unknown to the public, can be blackmailed not only by internal but also external politicians.

Such a situation does not guarantee the right of a democratic society to know and may have a negative impact on national security, ”says Č. Olševskis, R. Tamašunienė and B. Petkevič.

They also point out that people today often hear about the possible cooperation of politicians and public figures with KGB structures, but do not hear any justification or evidence in that regard.

“In such a situation, it is often possible to damage a person’s reputation, spread false information about him, which is impossible to verify. The public should know what the KGB did in Lithuania, who cooperated with this organization, it is necessary to publish all the most important documents related to that activity, how that activity has penetrated and penetrated various areas of human life.

The aim of the project is to avoid the possible blackmail of these people and the impact on their decisions, since some of these people have held and continue to hold high positions in the state administration and judicial structures ”, say the members of the Seimas Č. Olševskis, R. Tamašunienė and B. Petkevič.

The information and data provided by currently registered, confessed and registered persons are classified for 75 years and stored in accordance with the procedure established by law.
