The leaders of Alytus “Dainava”, who were officially admitted to the A league today, will have as much work in the next ten days as they didn’t dream of a week ago. The search for players and the strengthening of the team are inevitable so as not to repeat the scenario of 2014, when the people of Alytus were cannon fodder for anyone.

It was from that 2014 that Alytus did not stay on the A league map. It would not have been that far if it weren’t for the last minute campaign, during which together with the head of the LFF “Dainava” Žydrūnas Lukošiūnas was necessary to persuade the mayor of the city Nerijus Cesiulis to increase support for the club. It seems to have been successful. N. Cesiulis accepted the proposal with open arms, promising Dainava twice the support (120 thousand euros) than last year and additional funding assistance.

“With this help from the municipality, we are requesting a budget of about 300 thousand euros. Hopefully that’s enough to fight for eighth place. That is the minimum goal. Anywhere above would mean a good result, ”said Ž.Lukošiūnas on sportas.lt.

Over the weekend, Dainava introduced her first newcomer, Said Hamulitz from the Netherlands. Five Nigerians are currently training with the team, and the club is also looking for potential newcomers from Croatia, Russia and the Netherlands themselves.

“When it was possible to join league A, we connected all possible fronts. We agreed that Valerijus Mižigurskis will help with the players, other agents offer to help themselves, the Lithuanians without a contract also have nothing to join before. I think that We will definitely have something to choose from among the great offer. Now the most important thing is to strengthen the offensive and defensive chain and it will be possible to start, “said Ž.Lukošiūnas.

The Dainava owner does not hide that the club’s decision to enter the A league at that time is very risky. On the one hand, it has the potential to grow, on the other hand, it has the potential to burn out.

“As soon as that opportunity arises, I think about it day and night. However, just as every soldier wants to become a general, all clubs want to be the best they can be. We are in a position like that of young people who go from the first class to the second and who are waiting there, I don’t know yet, ”said Ž.Lukošiūnas.

Dainava will play the last preseason control game with the Knights in the attic of the capital Sportima this Saturday. It is not yet clear what composition we will see in “Dainava” in that duel.
