The members of the Seimas will vote the resignation
Parliamentary professor Valdas Rakutis, who wanted to take a closer look at the root causes of the tragedy in an article published on Holocaust Remembrance Day, was beaten and condemned not only by foreign ambassadors, Jewish communities in Lithuania and other countries, but also by Not to resign from the position of President of the Commission for the Fight for Freedom and the Historical Memory of the State.
It is true that according to the Statute of the Seimas, the fact of his resignation will be established only after the adoption of the relevant resolution by the Seimas. Therefore, the members of the Seimas who begin the spring session on March 10 should vote one day if they approve the resignation of V. Rakutis as chairman of the commission.
Rima Baškienė, a member of the Seimas Commission for the Fight for Freedom and the Historical Memory of the State, when asked how he evaluated the resignation of V. Rakutis, said: “He reacted to the criticism. V. Rakutis’s statement was made public on the wrong day, although no one will deny that there were all kinds of people from all ethnic groups. Since there was a strong reaction to his statement, it is natural for the man to seek a way out. At first trying to explain what he wanted to say, then he decided not to. He went the easy way, he just said, ‘I’m leaving.’
According to R.Baškienė, she evaluates the teacher as a person of high culture, a true specialist in her field, who wants to deepen, be able to manage and plan the work of the State Memory Commission. “I realized that you can do a lot of good work in this field, because in the person of V. Rakutis I saw an excellent leader who brings everyone together and properly organizes the activities of the commission. His loss to the commission would certainly be a great loss, “he said.
Did the members of the commission support their president? “If a person makes a mistake, he appreciates it, he regrets it, but the decision, to prove his position or to leave, is made by a specific person. I think V. Rakutis has support in the commission, because many people felt what he he was talking: his ability to organize, his competence, “said R. Baškienė.
When asked about the speeches that Emanuelis Zingeris could become the chairman of the State Remembrance Commission, the MP said it was too early to talk about it: “
The Holocaust taboo and the Kaniūkai massacres
When asked how the members of the commission reacted to the situation, Eugenijus Jovaiša, vice president of the Commission for the Fight for Freedom and the Historical Memory of the State, said: “Everyone has their own opinion, an understanding of what happened on the Holocaust Remembrance Day. At the last commission meeting, Valdemaras Valkiūnas expressed the opinion that V. Rakutis is undeservedly attacked. Therefore, it was decided to consider the matter at the next commission meeting. “
E. Jovaiša said that he had not heard of E. Zinger’s candidacy that was being considered. What do I think about that? I can only say my reaction: if it had been done, I would have been very surprised, “he said.
He wondered if the current Commission for the Fight for Freedom and the Historical Memory of the State and the Seimas could consider the issue of the massacre in the village of Kaniūkai, when in January 1944 the Red partisans, most of them Jews who had fled from the Vilnius and Kaunas ghettos, they shot and burned the entire village, including women and children, and why any attempt to find out about this crime by the Soviet partisans is stopped claiming that it is an attack against the anti-national movement, against the victims of the Holocaust, E. Jovaiša replied:
“I am not going to evaluate whether this Seimas can do it, I am just saying my opinion. The wound inflicted on the Jewish nation is incalculable, incurable. We understand the magnitude of that tragedy. And the Lithuanian nation, especially the current generation, is trying to make that this tragedy is significant in the conscience of the Lithuanian nation. But the other side must also understand us Lithuanians, because one side cannot be seen and the other cannot be seen. Common sense says: if we want the truth, we have to express our sorrows, because it is better to know them and come to terms with historical reality than to consciously silence, repress or pray people’s desire to know. In my deepest conviction, these are not attacks on the victims of the Holocaust. Such things Painful should be considered, can and should be on the agenda of the State Historical Memory Commission ”.
Interview
– How do you rate the resignation of Professor Valdas Rakutis? What is the mood on the committee? – Asked Vakaro žinios to a member of the Seimas Commission for the Fight for Freedom and the Historical Memory of the State Valdemaras VALKIŪNAS.
– I put the question to him, although there were also those who objected that the commission needed to investigate what happened, because I see psychological pressure on Professor V. Rakutis – he was under pressure to resign as chairman of the commission. No one will deny that he is a great specialist in history, a patriot of Lithuania. I believe that the State Commission for Historical Memory should be headed by a person who represents the Lithuanian nation. Because Lithuania, historical memory is our fundamental value. And we cannot allow our memory to be erased, which is what some are trying to do: level up, change the values in which we have lived. These are classic instruments of destructive forces. Therefore, we cannot allow a person like V. Rakutis to be humiliated. He’s been wrongly accused, maligned, and that’s why we have to find out, because those precedents shouldn’t be so easily overlooked. The commission voted to consider the circumstances of the attack and the resignation of V. Rakutis.
There was no other reunion of ours yet, but there was a desire to lose it, to put it mildly. When I raised that issue, we discussed it in committee for quite some time, because the members of the committee belonging to the Sindicato de la Patria and its wing not only did not try to defend their colleagues, they tried to eliminate it. This has caused me a lot of questions when mine are already “firing” at yours.
– So, will such a discussion about the circumstances of the attack by V. Rakutis take place in the commission, the Seimas?
“We will consider whether the commission meeting is not ‘thwarted’ by the influence of the ruler or other destructive forces. We need to clarify who is who. The nation needs to know. And we must defend our ideological people and not be guided by someone’s whims. “.
– The only question is, is the Seimas spine strong enough to do that?
– Time will tell. But it is obvious that the situation in Lithuania now is like this: we are trying to replace our values with pseudo-values. We need to see this, acknowledge it, and resist it.
– There are rumors about the candidacy of E. Zinger to the position of President of the State Historical Memory Commission. Will we try to please Mrs. Fainai Kukliansky?
– If that happened, it would be the greatest nonsense, a blow to the back. E. Zinger does not inspire me, there is something behind his actions and behavior. And it is not clear who runs it.
