The universal handball player from our country has already made her debut in the strongest Spanish league, but her team lost to one of the leaders of the “Granollers” championship at 22:28, and A. Kniubaitė will have to wait for his first goal .
This year, the teams of the Spanish women’s Premier League are divided into two groups of 8 teams each. A. Kniubaitė’s team is currently in fifth place in their group with 8 points.
One of the leaders of the Lithuanian women’s team stated that the decision to finally try herself abroad was made quite quickly and spontaneously.
“One morning I realized that another chance in life was worth taking. I wanted to get acquainted with a different hand. I had to play in the European and Challenge Cups against Spanish teams, so I almost imagined what to expect. It is dominated by fast and dynamic gameplay, and fans love handball very much.
Although the departure from Lithuania was sudden and surprised everyone, now I am glad that I made this decision. I received the support of my dear human coach Antanas Skarbalius, team members, friends, family, as well as all the staff of the Lithuanian Sports University. I am happy to be surrounded by so many sincere people who support me and at the same time motivate me. Of course, it will be difficult to start in a new place, but now I feel like I really needed it, ”said Varėniškės, who was voted the best handyman in the country in 2019.
During his career, A. Kniubaitė has played in absolutely every position, and his versatility is one of his greatest strengths. In Spain she will have to compete again as a retired player, but the handyman said that he will also have to get used to more things.
“After moving to Spain, the pace of my life became completely different. First I try to adapt to the team and their style of play. Of course, it also takes time to get used to the Spanish culture. Changing surroundings makes it easier for me to change myself, because now I have to adapt to the Spanish temperament, as well as their freedom in life. They explode quickly, but they relax very quickly. I like their sincere acceptance into the team from both the players, the coach and all the staff, ”said A. Kniubaitė.
Until then, A. Kniubaitė had spent his entire career in Lithuania and for several years was an irreplaceable leader of the team of multi-country champion ACME-Žalgiris. In Spain, you have to get used to a completely different culture and understanding of the game.
“Lithuania and Spain are countries of different cultures, so the culture of handball is completely different in them. In Lithuania, we are closed, we keep our emotions somewhere deep within ourselves, we criticize ourselves and generally we lack confidence in ourselves.
Excitement bombs explode in Spain. They express emotions not only through yelling, but also through body language. Everything is lived in this moment. Spaniards, from what I have noticed so far, try not to carry too much of everything in their hearts and not to carry negativity. They are safe and happy about everything. While I am here, I am learning to cultivate these qualities in myself, which, in my opinion, Lithuanians lack a bit. When it comes to hand culture, the hand is more alive here, with a fast and powerful hand dominating. We also have players and teams in Lithuania that play in a fairly similar style.
Right now, they want to adapt as quickly as possible in the team, train intensely, and if you do everything from the heart, then there are results, ”said A. Kniubaitė.
