The risk of stealing CityBee bank cards or driving licenses is extremely low, says Justice Minister Evelina Dobrovolska, after a meeting with the police, the State Data Protection Inspectorate (VDAI) and the CityBee service provider for 110,000 users.
The risk of using a driver’s license or bank card details is considered low, so it is not yet recommended that consumers rush to change documents.
“We do not make such recommendations, but we have called the attention of the bank representatives to take a closer look at the operations,” the minister said at a press conference.
According to E. Dobrovolska, it is unlikely that with these data it will be possible, for example, to illegally take a loan or perform other actions on behalf of a person.
Raimondas Andrijauskas, Director of the State Data Protection Inspectorate, said that both the National Cybersecurity Center and the Bank of Lithuania were informed about the incident.
Furthermore, according to E. Dobrovolska, the company reported that all the data that it had published had been published, so no additional information should be disclosed to the consumer in addition to what had already been published.
The company is the victim
According to Police Commissioner General Renatas Požėla, CityBee’s Prime Leasing company has been identified as a victim in a pre-trial investigation launched by law enforcement.
According to him, it has not yet been determined in what way or when the company’s database was accessed, nor has it been determined if a hacker did. Fit and damage.
“Intensive pre-trial investigations are underway and we have significant information obtained through non-public actions,” he said.
So far, there are “more questions than answers,” he added.
According to R. Andrijauskas, it is still difficult to say whether the company is to blame for the situation; it would be necessary to establish that the company did not comply with the requirements and kept the data insecure. He noted that sometimes the more secure system can be overcome.
According to both the SDPI and the police, the authorities have the data of the affected users, so it is not necessary to apply and submit additional statements, both received more than 20 complaints each.
VŽ wrote that some 110,000 Lithuanian registered CityBee car sharing service users were leaked on Tuesday night.
Criminals posted consumer data from three years ago on one of the hackers’ favorite forums.
In addition to the first and last names of some CityBee customers, phone numbers, email addresses, residential addresses, driver’s license numbers, and encrypted passwords were stolen.
The police are conducting a pre-trial investigation for illegal interception of electronic data and illegal connection to the information system.
