Speaking at a Pan-Belarusian People’s Assembly in the capital Minsk, attended by hundreds of loyalist delegates on Friday, Lukashenko said he had ordered “control authorities” to liquidate private companies that supported opposition calls for a national strike last fall.
Again he harshly criticized private companies, demanded tougher conditions for their registration, and warned about massive inspections of private companies.
Mr. Lukashenko gave the example of the liquidation of a private trading company that did not want to buy Belarusian products for political reasons.
“There is no place for such a company in Belarus,” he added.
Addressing representatives of private companies, Lukashenko said: “Dear businessmen, start working for the state. You will not receive discounts if you deviate from this line. I am a statesman and I will demand as authoritarian leader (…) or, as you want, dictator. “
