Šimonytė on inaccuracies in COVID-19 statistics: only two parameters have an impact on quarantine decisions

“As soon as the Government, experts and the Association of Municipalities of Lithuania began to discuss that the accelerated situation in some municipalities could be assessed by lower quarantine restrictions applied locally, records were added with red exclamations that there are not so many active cases of COVID in one municipality or another. Therefore, decisions will be made based on erroneous statistics, because, for example, the mother-in-law of the deputy director of the municipal administration is still included, although at work for a long time ”, writes I. Šimonytė on Facebook.

“Since the Lithuanian Department of Statistics acquired the right to receive all the data necessary for the publication of complete COVID-19 statistics, for more than a month each report has been accompanied by red warnings that the data is currently being processed. and will be updated in the near future.

It happened today, when tens of thousands of people suddenly recovered “miraculously”, because the statisticians simply entered a statistical assessment of how many cases can really be considered relevant in a reasonable way, even if the human recovery is not properly recorded, “says the prime minister.

According to her, only two other parameters affect quarantine decisions.

“Someone saw some ambition in it and even linked this, albeit large, but incorrect data with the quarantine decisions.” I just want to emphasize this again: quarantine decisions (and consequently the coloring of a country or parts of a country with a specific color) are influenced by only two parameters that have nothing to do with the issue: the number of cases NEW for 100 t. population; and the percentage of positive responses to the tests carried out ”, says I. Šimonytė.

According to the Prime Minister, today we are in the middle of the red scenario (C) under both parameters.

“I hope easing restrictions will play a role (and it will if customers, service providers and vendors alike adhere to the voice of safety and common sense) and we will continue to move in the same direction of decreasing new cases. and positive tests, “he said.
