After a powerful hail, insurers warn: if you can, don’t leave cars on the streets

“We have noticed that cars are hit very often during these storms, the absolute majority of which become victims of hail: broken glass, a sloping roof, hoods. The storm was especially ruthless for car owners in the region of Kaunas, from here we receive more than 30 reports of damaged vehicles. At the same time, there are even more reports of damaged property: roofs of houses or terraces torn by wind and hail, damage to the interior of homes and there have been floods in the premises. Just yesterday, we registered about 60 events of this type, “says Karolina Karpova, Director of the Claims Regulation Department of the insurance company.

Customers can report damage within 3 days, so the rate of reports received predicts that the total amount of damage can increase significantly.

Meteorologists predict that this storm is not intended to exhale and will not leave Lithuania alone for the next few days, so insurers advise car owners to take care of their vehicles as much as possible: do not park them under trees, near electric poles, near unstable buildings.

“It is usually not possible to protect yourself from hail, but if you have the chance, park under the roof: drive to the garage or choose underground parking instead of parking on the street, even if you leave the car for just a few minutes” , advises the expert.

According to K. Karpova, most of the messages go to the population insurance company, to a lesser extent from the companies. Obviously, it will take a considerable amount of time and effort to restore the damaged property, causing additional discomfort and stress for residents.
