For the fourth time he took out the relaxant

Jolanta Jonaitienė, who lives in Gruzdžiai, cannot stand tears when she talks about the tragic story of her husband Arūnas’ illness.

A 52-year-old working man was diagnosed with heart failure a couple of years ago. In January of this year, the man felt unwell and was being treated at home, and had a certificate of incapacity to work. He waited for the heart rhythm restoration procedure, but did not receive it.

Jolanta said the man’s condition worsened on April 19.

The woman called an ambulance, which took the patient to the Šiauliai Republican Hospital. But after seeing him, the doctors released him the same day.

Once again, the ambulance went to Gruzdžiai to Jonaičius on April 29, but even then the hospital doctors did not show that the person needed more serious help.

“On May 3, the man began to complain that his right hand was sore and numb, his tongue was defective, he was weak. I was still thinking, maybe what a hit. I called the express. At the reception, they did a blood test, injected her with medications, and after a few hours, she told those who were swaying to drive home, ”recalls the widow.

On the morning of May 5, Jolanta woke up in the morning and heard that the man was breathing with a loud noise, gargling, looking with invisible eyes.

He rushed to call the ambulance. The three sons of Jonaičiai living in Gruzdžiai were reunited. The ambulance pulled the man out of a coma. Jolanta said she understood that it was all over. The man didn’t revive him anyway.

A statistical unit for the system, a tragedy for the family.

Perhaps for doctors, the death of Arūnas Jonaitis is only a statistical unit. Jolanta and her three adult children are a family tragedy.

After working hard for more than 10 years in a mushroom growing complex in Gruzdžiai, the man was left without help at the moment when he most expected it.

A remaining Jolanta still cannot find a place for her. He addressed the lawyers who wrote a letter to the hospital. Awaiting medical response.

“I will take you to court. He couldn’t lie down, do normal tests. Perhaps they would have been saved. I will also go to Minister Veryga and go to Seimas, if necessary I will not go. The man was tortured. I will not be silent, I will bring Lithuania to the European Court, but I will not be silent. I have nothing to lose, “says the wounded widow.

They lived together for 33 years. He raised two sons and a daughter. It was a great joy for both of them to have their first grandchildren.

Jolanta told how the granddaughter attracted her grandfather, “treating her”. The granddaughter will start going to school this year, but her grandfather will no longer be happy with that. As soon as the second granddaughter, who is expecting a younger daughter, is born in July.

The oldest son celebrated his 33rd birthday on May 4 and learned a terrible message in the morning. Jolanta says the son, who works as a long-distance driver, still can’t stand tears, remembering his father.

The situation is explained by the medical commission.

The cause of death for A. Jonaitis was myocardial infarction, hypertensive disease, heart failure. The wife regretted that only one disease, COVID-19, was treated during quarantine, and some of the other patients were left without the necessary help, which could have saved their lives. Is not the life of a person exposed to the coronavirus less valuable?

We asked the Šiauliai Hospital to comment on why A. Jonaitis may not have received the necessary medical care. Public relations specialist Zita Katkienė reported that a medical commission was formed to investigate this case and promised to report the results of the investigation.

“I can safely say that this case has nothing to do with the ‘struggle’ and the organization of the work of the medical institution. You can make a mistake, but not a systemic one but possibly a diagnosis. It has nothing to do with systemic things. Has it been before? That was the case. If such was where our mistake was evident after the commission’s response, “Remigijus Mažeika, director of the Šiauliai Republican Hospital, explained at a press conference.
