“Obviously, the center is the institution where trust is very important, and here I believe that very sudden decisions must be avoided. However, I will propose to the Seimas Board to organize a working group, which could include both politicians and, necessarily, experts. We will explain this situation further, as it is necessary to strengthen trust in this institution and not ignore the problems that exist, ”said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen after the meeting with the general director of LGGRTC, Adas Jakubauskas.

According to the president of Seimas, she heard at the meeting not only the attitude of the director of the center that no mistakes had been made, but also the determination to solve the problems identified by LGGRTC employees. According to politicians, one way could be to create a council under the LGGRTC.

“We have complaints from the center staff. Today is too early to comment in detail on how well all the complaints are justified. But obviously there are problems. I heard today a determination from the principal to address them. One possible solution is to create a council in the center. She could carry out a very important mission with the help of top-level experts and build confidence, which has fluctuated today, “said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen, noting that it is too early to consider whether A. Jakubauskas is fit. to continue work.

“Today, I would refrain from making such decisions,” he said, noting that he would continue to meet with those involved in the discussion on the quality of LGGRTC’s work.

On Tuesday, the president of Seimas met with representatives of LGGRTC employees who accuse the LGGRTC leadership of politicizing the investigations.
ELTA recalls that the center staff addressed the Seimas Spokesperson last week, concerned about the management of LGGRTC. The speech asserts that LGGRTC employees are concerned about the underestimation of historical science by directing historical research in the direction of ideologization and politicization. It is noted that the LGGRTC leadership encourages the public to participate in the “defense of history” and the “memory wars”.
