In extremely unfavorable weather conditions, maintenance of pedestrian areas is difficult, as almost 4 million square meters need to be cleaned and sprayed. tide. However, in accordance with the maintenance requirements established by the municipality, the work was not carried out qualitatively in recent days, when the snow had already ended: in some places the snow was removed, but it was not sprayed with mixtures of sand, and in some places neither snow nor snow was scattered.

All city management companies are committed to proper oversight of the city. Three Vilnius companies take care of pedestrian paths and courtyards. The number of bicycle lanes, sidewalks and other hard surfaces maintained by the Vilnius City Municipality in winter exceeds 4 million. square kilometers. This is an area that companies must clear immediately. Access to trash containers in the yards is especially important here.

“We had conversations with all the companies about what the fight against snow was like. Now that the snow had stopped, the work had to be staggered differently and progressed towards the result until new frosts arrived. The city is divided into 5 territories, where three territory management companies work. Each of them has around 50-100 environmental management mechanisms. However, when this is the case and you need to excavate the sidewalks, the companies rent the equipment additionally. There is really a lot of equipment, ”says Gintautas Runovičius, Head of the Department of Municipal Management and Environmental Protection of the Municipality of Vilnius.

On the website maps.vilnius.lt, each Vilnius resident can see who is responsible for the order of a specific territory.

“We are currently calculating how many discrepancies there have been and still are, and we will impose fines on companies,” says G. Runovičius. He also adds that the calculations are still in progress, so the exact amounts of the fines should be clarified in the near future.

A tender for companies managing new territories will be announced in the near future, which will take into account how companies have managed to ensure order in the past.

According to Daiva Mikulskienė, Senior Advisor to the Municipal Administration, people working in the Employment Improvement Program will soon contribute to the management of the shipyards. This year, up to half a million euros are planned for this program. The elderly plan to employ 118 people. Of these, 110 will work as support workers, 10 will be hired as environmental improvement specialists, and 6 employees will become specialists in community organizations.

First of all, now we will work where the snow needs to be cleared the most: where there is no transport to the waste containers, maybe even in very difficult places without cleaning or without cleaning and can be cleaned by hand. All of this will be coordinated with the Municipal Directorate for Urban Planning and Environmental Protection.
