This is the fourth relocation organized by the Lithuanian Embassy in Spain, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

A total of 26 people have arrived in Lithuania from Venezuela.

The Lithuanians who arrived and their families were received in Vilnius by representatives of the Refugee Center, who took care of the temporary accommodation of the new arrivals, warm clothes and food, as well as their quarantine.

Later relocated people will be granted settlement benefits and basic needs, assistance for children’s education and learning the Lithuanian language, job search assistance and other support.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as the situation in Venezuela did not improve, more and more people decided to leave the country shaken by the crisis and start a new life in the homeland of their parents and grandparents.

Currently, the Lithuanian Embassy in Madrid is in contact with more than 80 people who have displaced status and are seeking to relocate to Lithuania. The same number of people are asking about the possibilities of obtaining such status and are considering applying.

The Lithuanian community in Venezuela unites some 400 people of Lithuanian origin. An estimated 1,000 Lithuanian citizens and people of Lithuanian origin live in Venezuela.

Requests for transfer status can be sent to the Lithuanian Embassy in Spain before October 1.

The possibility for the crisis-affected Venezuelan Lithuanians to move to Lithuania was approved in September 2019.

The resettlement program is implemented in accordance with the law passed almost two years ago, which allows to reimburse relocation costs and provide other state support to Lithuanians living in crisis-affected countries.
