M. Sinkevičius will lead the Social Democrats until May 29. A congress will be held to approve the newly elected president of the LSDP.

“I am determined to work with you with patience and perseverance for three months. Everything is in everyone’s hands. It is you, the friends of the party, not just the president. One person is not everything yet,” said M. Sinkevičius in the council meeting.

He informed the council members that he would not participate in the election of the party president.

Justinas Argustas, representative of the communication department of the LSDP Delphi On Friday evening, he reported that the party council had elected two possible temporary party leaders: M. Sinkevičius and Vilija Blinkevičiūtė.

M. Sinkevičius was appointed by party member Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis.

“Two candidates were nominated for the Council members, who were appointed by the Council members themselves: M. Sinkevičius and V. Blinkevičiūtė. Both nominations were put to a vote. 171 members participated in the vote, 97 council members voted for M. Sinkevičius and 74 council members voted for V. Blinkevičiūtė, ”said J. Argustas.

The first round of the LSDP presidential elections will take place from April 22 to 25 and is elected for a period of 2 years.

Since 2017 the LSDP was headed by Gintautas Paluckas, who resigned a week ago.
