Coronavirus claimed the life of a long-term doctor from the Panevėžys district

According to his colleague, Dr. Nijolė Lekarauskienė, in September this year the deceased would have celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the doctor’s work.

Ignas Mėlynis, originally from the Ramygala region, graduated from Vilnius University Medical Faculty and was a member of the Lithuanian Medical Association.

According to the municipality, this is not the first medical victim of the coronavirus in the Panevėžys district. Virginija Rutkauskienė, a GP at the Naujamiestis Hospital for Nursing and Supportive Treatment, died of this disease late last year.

The leaders of the Panevėžys district municipality express their sincere condolences to the relatives who have suffered the loss and to the entire medical community.

The portal tv3.lt recalls that on Thursday even 4 deaths of doctors from the Klaipėda region were reported by COVID-19.

The Klaipėda Marine Hospital announced that COVID-19 had defeated the famous Klaipėda cardiologist Vytautas Vasiliauskas. Klaipeda Republican Hospital is also mourning the death of three employees.

20 deaths were reported

Fifteen people died from COVID-19 last day, between the ages of 30 and 99, according to data released by Statistics Lithuania on Friday. A total of 10 men and five women died last day.

Most of the deaths, six, belonged to the age group 80 to 89 years.

Five of the dead were between 70 and 79 years old, and two were between 90 and 99 years old.

One deceased belonged to the 50 to 59 year old group and one to the 30 to 39 year old group.

The Department of Statistics indicates that “the number of deaths in the last day is preliminary and increases between 20 and 40 percent in a few days.”

General mortality statistics include five more deaths from coronavirus when the actual date of death is earlier.

They are four women and one man. Two of them were between 80 and 89 years old, one between 90 and 99 years old and another between 50 and 59 years old.

A total of 2,762 people died from coronavirus in Lithuania.

860 new cases

During the last day, 860 new cases of the COVID-19 disease were detected in Lithuania. 1,353 people recovered from COVID-19 last day.

In Lithuania, since the start of the pandemic, COVID-19 has affected 181 thousand people. 28 people, 126 thousand. 548 recovered.

In Lithuania, 67 thousand people were vaccinated with the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. 794 people, both doses – 15 thousand. 756 people.

Lithuanian hospitals are currently treating 1,582 COVID-19 patients, 173 of them in resuscitation, 1,043 additional oxygen supplies, and 109 people undergoing artificial lung ventilation.

152 patients were hospitalized for COVID-19 on the last day.

A total of 2,722 beds were used for the treatment of coronavirus infection, 278 of them in intensive care units for resuscitation.

Of the 8,400 physicians whose workplaces provide services to COVID-19 patients, 102 are currently unable to work due to coronavirus infection and 36 are in isolation.

For other reasons, 607 doctors are temporarily absent.

Due to COVID-19, it temporarily disabled 329 out of 13,000. 187 nurses, 67 in isolation.

For other reasons, 1,060 nurses are temporarily absent.
