On Friday, the Council of Judges approved President Gitanas Nausėda’s decree to appoint 47-year-old E. Pašilis as judge of the Ukmergė Palace of the Vilnius Regional District Court.

The mandate of E. Pašilis, who headed the Lithuanian Prosecutor’s Office, ended on December 29.

“MI. Pašilis finished his term as Attorney General and wanted to return to the judiciary,” said Jūratė Šovienė, Advisor to the President.

“I have worked exclusively for the state throughout the year, I would appreciate if the decision were positive,” said E. Pašilis at a remote meeting of the Council of Judges.

His candidacy was approved by the sixteen members of the Council of Judges.

Before becoming Prosecutor General, E. Pašilis worked at the Ukmerg Distrito District District Court for more than 16 years and was also the former president of this court.

E. Pašilis was selected as the best candidate for the General Court of the European Union, but G. Nausėda did not support his candidacy.

On Friday, the Judicial Council also approved the appointment of judges Ernestas Spruogis and Rasa Ragulskytė-Markovienė of the Vilnius Regional Administrative Court as judges of the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania. It is true that it is not yet clear when the judges will assume their new functions, since the Presidency, which deals with the issues of their careers, seeks that the judges examine the administrative cases that are assigned to them.

At that time, the Lithuanian Court of Appeal judge Ernesta Montvidienė requested to be transferred to a lower court, the Šiauliai Regional Court, where she worked until 2018. The judge made the decision to return to Šiauliai for personal reasons.
