The bond was announced at the first preparatory hearing in the Chauvin case on the May 25 incident in Minneapolis.
The incident filmed Chauvin white pressing on the neck of a black man lying on the ground and handcuffed for almost nine minutes before he stopped moving and breathing.
A police officer detained at the Minnesota State Jail, who attended the video hearing, was formally charged with second and third degree manslaughter, as well as wrongful death.
At the hearing, Chauvin, 44, was not required to admit guilt or to dismiss the charges. Additionally, a Henepin District Court judge announced that the defendant could be released for $ 1 million.
