A real-time map of power grids shows that the number of consumers without electricity is increasing, especially where there are heavier rains.
Paulius Kalmantas, spokesman for the Energy Distribution Operator (ESO), says that the failures were rectified overnight and that according to early morning data, some 6,000 homes had no electricity. By noon, that number rose to 20,000.
“Due to the wet snow that accumulates on the trees, the branches of the trees break. And they fall on the distribution lines. When the snow fell, the forces to rectify the faults intensified. The specialists are working at full capacity to restore electricity to people, ”says P. Kalmantas.
No need to call in case of power outage
Mr. Kalmant says the customer service phone lines are very busy this morning. Callers want to report the loss of electricity, but it is not necessary.
“Calling ESO is not recommended because we usually already know about bugs. There is a live map and messages are sent to customers whose bugs are known. Once you receive such a message, you no longer have to register.
However, if residents want to report a bug, I encourage them to do so on the ESO website, online. And if there is no possibility to register online, please be patient while the consultant responds, ”the spokesperson comments on the situation.
