Task – done before the flight
According to Rasa Petraitienė, head of the passenger experience management department at Lithuanian airports, travelers who are currently preparing to travel can do some of the preparatory work before arriving at the airport.
“First of all, if we have that opportunity, we recommend that passengers check in at home, this can be done online. After printing or saving the boarding pass on the mobile phone (boarding pass)You will not have to wait at the registration desks. Make sure you have other documents necessary to enter the country with you, find out what the requirements are when traveling to a specific foreign country. Such pre-flight preparation is encouraged not only by airports, but also by many airlines, “recalls R. Petraitienė.
Useful information on requirements to reach other countries is constantly updated on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Next, according to the airport representative, passengers are urged to assess their general well-being and control fever while still at home.
“Many airports carry out temperature controls before entering the terminal and if the temperature is higher than normal for the body, it may not be allowed to enter or request additional controls,” says R. Petraitienė.

Passengers must take care of personal protective equipment before arriving at the airport. Everyone traveling must wear a face mask (this is usually the case both at the airport and on the plane), and you can bring protective gloves and an original bottle of personalized disinfectant.
As security resumes, security requirements also change slightly. Up to 500 ml of disinfectant can be carried in carry-on luggage. It is important that it is in the original packaging with the manufacturer’s label stating that it is a disinfectant. It is emphasized that the exemption only applies to disinfectants, the requirements for other liquids remain the same. It will no longer be possible to carry liquids on board that contain 70% of the aircraft. and higher alcohol concentration.
It is recommended to arrive at the airport approximately 2 hours before the flight. This period will avoid urgency, reduce the need to be in meetings before check-in, and at the same time, passengers can quietly prepare for the waiting flight, buy items for the trip or, for example, eat.
Safety distance and personal protective equipment.
Upon arrival at the airport, it is recommended to give priority to self-service. According to R.Petraitienė, this will not only save time, but will also help avoid gathering additional people and contacts.
“If there is an opportunity at the airport to check in for a flight or drop off luggage at the self-service facility, take advantage of that. For passengers flying to or from Vilnius airport, 10 automatic check-in gates are installed to make border controls even more convenient and faster. There are food and beverage vending machines and personal protective equipment in the passenger terminals. The contact surfaces of the devices are constantly cleaned and disinfected, but if you still do not dare to touch them, we recommend disinfecting them with a cloth and disinfectant before using them.
If there is an option at the airport to check in for a flight or leave luggage at the self-service facility, take advantage of this.
Disinfection stations are installed at Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga airports during the passenger travel process. When buying at airport stores, it is recommended to pay choosing the safest method, for example, contactless cards or mobile applications, we recommend that you avoid paying in cash, ”urges the Head of the Department of Passenger Experience Management.
It is recalled that at airports and their entrances it is necessary to maintain a safe distance of 1-2 meters from other passengers. If this is not possible, it is suggested to reduce at least the period of the meeting, to wait further from other people.
In order to ensure maximum passenger safety, the recommended distances to check-in counters, boarding gates, queues to other services are indicated by special signs at all Lithuanian airports.
When eating in cafes and choosing a seat, it is also recommended to keep a safe distance, follow the instructions and advice of the service personnel. It is also recalled that protective masks must be worn throughout the stay in the passenger terminal.
After boarding, passengers are encouraged to continue to wear personal protective equipment and follow normal rules.
“Flight safety can also be provided by the crew of the plane. You can disinfect your hands periodically or wear gloves on the plane. Face masks should also be worn during the flight,” recalls R. Petraitienė.
Airlines should, to the extent possible, follow the recommendations of international organizations to ensure that passengers are seated within the aircraft at a certain distance. Inside the aircraft, passengers can always ask or consult with the flight crew, who will certainly explain the safety rules or help in case of problems.
