“I would often save money and ask my parents to take me to buy the new model I wanted.

I always asked my parents to let me get on my knees at the wheel because I hadn’t reached the pedals with my feet yet. “I think I can say I wanted to drive quite early,” he smiles.

Dreamed of medicine

Although she liked cars, at first Carolina did not think about associating her life with them. For a long time, the woman dreamed of studying medicine, but sitting on a school bench she realized that she still did not love her at all.

“Almost at the last minute, I decided that I wanted to work with technology. This is how I included auto mechanics in my study options, “he says of his choice.

At first, her parents were not very happy with it, because they felt that this profession was not suitable for a girl and they even tried to discourage their daughter. However, when later they saw that Carolina was successful at work, the parents were very happy with the choice of the daughter, because the happiness of the children is the most important thing.

“I studied at Kaunas Technical College, got a bachelor’s degree there, graduated from automotive technical operation. She was not the only girl who studied, there were some more besides me.

Peers reacted very kindly if they didn’t understand something or it was difficult to be happy to help. The teachers were also great, they were happy that not only men but also women chose this specialty, ”he says.

Customers don’t always respond positively

During her studies, Carolina faced a considerable challenge finding a place in an auto repair shop because no one wanted to accept it. It was also difficult with the job search, but here the reason is completely different.

“The work experience we got in college is really very little. Therefore, when looking for work, it was a big inconvenience because employers want to find an employee with a considerable background of experience. Also, I think that employers are a little afraid of hiring a woman because they know that our physical capacities are weaker than those of men ”, thinks Karolina.

The woman says that so far she has only faced a situation where she had to hand over her work to a colleague because it was too difficult for her.

This time he put the tires on the van and his Carolina was too heavy.

“I fell while trying to pick them up and put them in the assembly machine, but strangely no one laughed, I gladly took over my job and took another. In general, it’s a labor-intensive job and sometimes even men get tired of unscrewing screws or removing certain parts, ”he says.

Customers who come to the car service and see Karolina working there, according to her, react very differently.

“First of all, not everyone is in a good mood. Usually I get such reactions from older people, I think they still think that a woman’s place is only in the kitchen and with the children.

Others are just curious to see them because they rarely come across a woman who works in car repairs. And for third parties it does not matter at all that I am a woman, or that I repair cars, the most important result is ”, he smiles.

The biggest dream

Karolina, who currently chooses to specialize in motor repair, is on maternity leave and raising a son.

“Right now, my biggest hobby is being a mother, but I really want to get back to work,” laughs the woman.

So far, Carolina says she only has one big, difficult dream to achieve. And she – to participate in the “NASCAR” car race.

However, alongside him are other more realistic dreams, as the woman herself says: participate in one of the rallies that take place in Lithuania and one day open your own car service.
