After the cold – higher heating bills: depending on the city, the price varies twice

The Lithuanian Heat Suppliers Association (LŠTA) notes that in January this year, heat consumption is forecast at 9 percent. higher compared to perennial outdoor climatic conditions, and 34 percent. higher compared to January 2020.

According to LŠTA, this year the price of heating is lower than last year, so this month’s bills will “depreciate” slightly, but they will remain higher.

Valdas Lukoševičius, president of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, recalled that the month of January was not over yet, in addition, the warming came after the heavy frosts, so it is difficult to predict and say how much you will have to pay for heating. According to him, a clear situation will become visible at the end of the month.

However, compared to January last year, heating will be more expensive, the more expensive it will depend on the amount of heat consumption and the price, which is different in each city.

Vilnius residents will pay more

Vilniaus šilumos tinklai reported that heating bills in December were lower than last year, but in January consumers will pay more than last month and more than they paid in January last year.

“In January this year, 1 kilowatt-hour of thermal energy costs Vilnius residents less and amounts to 4.14 carats. In January last year, the price was 12.7 percent higher and amounted to 4 , 74 carats.

And in December 2020, the price per kilowatt-hour was lower than in January, it was 3.96 carats and the monthly average air temperature was minus 0.2 degrees. Consequently, the city consumed 16 percent of its thermal energy in December. less than expected in January this year. Therefore, the lower price and lower heat consumption resulted in Vilnius residents receiving around 21 percent. lower bills than expected in January.

Last January, the average air temperature was 1.7 degrees and this year, according to preliminary calculations, minus 4.3 degrees. Such a difference in temperatures has led the company to forecast 28 percent for the city in January this year. more thermal energy. Thus, despite the lower price, the much higher amount of thermal energy consumed will lead to this year’s January bills being on average higher than last year, ”the company commented.

The company recalls that the size of the heating bill is determined by the price per kilowatt-hour and the consumption of thermal energy dictated by the air temperature.

“At that time, a greater part of the price of the kilowatt-hour consists of the so-called variable part of the price, in which the price of the fuel used for the production of heat plays a determining role, which is determined by the exchange and is changing constantly. In January this year, the variable part was 2.81 ct, in December – 2.64 ct. Last January, the variable part reached 3.28 cents, “the company reported.

The cheapest heating in Kaunas and the most expensive in Biržai

According to data from the State Energy Regulatory Council (VERT), in January, residents of the city of Klaipėda paid the most for heating in the largest cities in Lithuania: 5.26 ct / kWh. And Kaunas residents receive the lowest heating bills – 3.71 ct / kWh. Vilnius residents pay 4.14 ct / kWh for heating.

In general, Biržai residents pay more for heating in Lithuania, the heat costs them 8.67 ct / kWh. Residents of Šakiai pay 7.66 ct / kWh and Nemenčinė – 7.34 ct / kWh.

Utena residents pay the minimum to heat 3.54 ct / kWh.

So the price of the same heating service in different places differs more than double.

In fall, VERT reported that heating prices had fallen 17% compared to last year, and compared to 2012, this year it was half as cheap.

The drop in prices was due to lower prices for biofuels and natural gas. And the decrease in the price of heat purchased from independent heat producers (NC) in Vilnius, Klaipėda and Kaunas of 19 percent. up to 65 percent
