In response to the call of the representatives of culture, V.Čmilytė-Nielsen emphasized that the composition of the committees is decided first by the factions of the Seimas.
“The request of the representatives of the field of culture for their presence in the Culture Committee received a lot of attention – not the President of the Seimas should indicate to which committee the members of the Seimas have or can belong. There are clear and fair principles in our Seimas: each faction has a quota in the Seimas committees according to its size. It is up to each political group to decide which member to delegate to which committee.

He agreed that “such a politician does not honor culture, the Seimas or Lithuania,” but that this is the price of democracy.

He reiterated that the composition of the committees is not decided by the president of the Seimas or the Board of the Seimas, and promised to discuss the issue of the composition of the Culture Committee with a mixed group of members of the Seimas.
“It is not the president of the Seimas nor the board of the Seimas who evaluate whether the education, the statements and the morale of a particular member of the Seimas are appropriate for any committee. This is done by the Seimas factions, which, as I have already mentioned, delegate their representatives to the committees in which they receive a seat. More than 700 representatives from different cultural fields applied to the Seimas with a request to remove P. Gražulis from the Seimas Culture Committee.
According to the authors of the appeal, the politician lacks competence and is not fit to represent them.
Father Gražulis himself does not agree with the reproaches, qualifies the appeal as the action of conservatives or people who sympathize with them and assures that he will not voluntarily withdraw from the committee.
