Lake Talkša is located in the city center, surrounded by recreational areas, the Iron Fox sculpture is still highly visited, according to a press release. The eastern shore of the lake is now very popular: Talkša ecological trails start from there, you can hike up to the Žuvininkai (Salduvė) mound.
When the cold clicked and the negative temperature remained for a long time, Lake Talkša was covered in ice. And when the temperature dropped below -10 ° C over the weekend, the townspeople gathered by the lake and began a “journey” from the “Iron Fox” on the ice to the other shore of the lake (or on the opposite direction). The section of just half a kilometer is easy to overcome. If they wanted to try ice entertainment, the people of Šiauliai kept their distance and wore masks.
Lake Talkša is not the only attraction in winter. Lake 10 Rėkyva, the 10th largest in Lithuania, was also covered with thick ice. Fewer people decided to move from one shore to another, but those who tried this “entertainment” said it was a unique experience. It is true that the width of this lake is much greater than that of the city center, about 4 km.
This lake and winter are visited by motor kite enthusiasts. After the wind, they skate on ice and plunge into the skies.
Just remember that you can climb on ice making sure it’s thick enough. What you need to know when preparing to hike in an icy body of water, read here: Firefighter: “Always think when climbing on ice: 100 percent to get in”
Nature and the rest of Lithuania now fascinate with its winter beauty. For example, the icy cold of recent days near Kretinga The dam in the village of Padvariai became a true work of art.
