“It was discussed during the meeting [Kremliaus kritiko Aleksejaus] Navalno’s return to Russia. Sviatlana called on international organizations to help organize a safe return home for her and other leaders of the democratic forces, “in a statement published on Telegram on Tuesday.

Ms. Cichanouskaya said that “she would like to find a way to return safely to Belarus together with the international community.”

“As I have been the subject of two criminal proceedings and an international registration, special guarantees must be given for my return. The situation in Navalno shows that this requires the help of the international community, in particular the OSCE,” said S. Cichanouskaja.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of holding new presidential elections in Belarus, which is plagued with anti-government protests.

“We hope to hold elections in 45 days and we need help here,” said the former head of state candidate.

According to her, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) could help organize new elections that comply with international standards and are monitored by foreign observers.

Cichanouskaya also called on the organization to facilitate dialogue to end the crisis in Belarus.

“The OSCE can establish a contact platform and start with a round table of experts with the participation of the EU, the Democratic Forces of Belarus and the Coordination Council, as well as [Aliaksandro] Representatives of the Lukashenko regime, “said the opposition leader.

For the sixth month in a row, Belarus has been plagued by massive protests over the August 9 presidential election, which Lukashenko has ruled the country since 1994.

The opposition and western democracies claim the elections were rigged and the winner sees political fledgling S. Cichanouskaya, who replaced her imprisoned husband in the presidential race.

The Opposition Coordination Council was established on the initiative of S. Cichanouskaja, who left Lithuania after the elections.

The protesters are demanding the resignation of Lukashenko, the release of political prisoners and new elections.
