Parties congressed the congress in automobiles, which, due to existing quarantine restrictions and a ban on gathering for more frequent events, made all decisions related to the party’s reorganization.
The congress was attended by 267 delegates, of whom 141 delegates represented the former Order and Justice Party, A. Zuokas’ political party – 86 delegates, and the public movement “Forward, Lithuania” led by Artūras Paulauskas, who joined to the party led by A. Zuokas – 40.
R. Žemaitaitis became the party’s president
Delegates meeting at the congress elected R. Zemaitaitis as party chair. 238 delegates voted in favor of the former Leader of Order and Justice, 4 against.
The candidacies of A. Paulauskas and A. Zuokas were also nominated for the position of party president. However, A. Paulauskas and A. Zuokas refused to run for party presidents, and offered R. Žemaitaitis the position of party president.
“I just realized that today is such an extraordinary day for me.” An extraordinary day in the sense that on one day in my life there were two events at 10 a.m. I had a party at the Congress of the Order and Justice where I had to decide on the liquidation of the party as party leader. Now we have to speak as a candidate for the formation and formation of a new political party, “said R. Žemaitaitis even before the vote on the appointment of the party president.
“It was an unprecedented event, no one in Lithuania has managed to get the three political leaders to agree and make a decision to join the elections,” he said happily.
Early Saturday, the Order and Justice Party decided to end its existence as a separate political entity.
As ELTA already wrote, in late April, the social movement “Adelante, Lituania” led by A. Paulauskas joined the A. Zuokas party. A. Paulauskas, R. Žemaitaitis and A. Zuokas had previously announced plans to create a political force, whose plan would be called “Liberty and Justice”.
Leaders of the newly established Freedom and Justice party await several dozen seats in the Seimas.
The leaders of the newly founded Freedom and Justice Party, Remigijus Žemaitaitis and Artūras Zuokas await several seats in the Seimas on Saturday, while Artūras Paulauskas, the “third musketeer”, is still considering participating in the elections.
“My goal is 15 seats … I think it is a positive, good and fair enough solution for a new political entity,” the party’s president, R. Žemaitaitis, told reporters.
He also said that he would run for the Seimas elections in the single-member Kelmė-Šilalė constituency, and that he was elected in the Southern Samogitia constituency four years ago in the parliamentary elections.
“Three terms, twelve years, mean trust there, which is a great appreciation for me. It is natural that I definitely run for office in that constituency, in that country,” said the party’s president.
A. Zuokas also stated that he expected several terms in the upcoming Seimas elections.
“There should be a faction of 10-12 members of the Seimas. A great team for the coalition government,” the former mayor of the capital told reporters.
He said he planned to run in the Šeškinė-Šnipiškė single-member constituency.
At the time, A. Paulauskas speaks vaguely about his participation in the Seimas elections, but states that he wants to “participate in politics” and possibly hold the position of Minister of Justice.
“I still don’t know about participating in Seimas. I have suggestions like that, but I’m still thinking. Seimas is not the only place where you can participate in politics,” A. Paulauskas told reporters.
He added that he could “get involved in politics” as Minister of Justice.
“It could, of course, be close to the law,” he said.
The leaders of the newly formed party have not yet clarified who they would like to work with in the ruling coalition if the elections were successful, nor did they rule out the possibility of working with the current ruling “peasants”.
Party leaders position the new political force as conservative liberals, so they say that perhaps the main opponents in the elections could be liberal-minded parties.
According to R. Žemaitaitis, after the elections, the party would also want political positions.
“We have reviewed where we can. In the National Defense and Security Committee, I think A. Paulauskas is the person who knows this work,” said R. Žemaitaitis.
He added that A. Zuokas could lead the Seimas Culture Committee for having extensive experience.
It was decided to establish “Liberty and Justice” on Saturday on the basis of the former Lithuanian Freedom Union (Liberals) party led by A. Zuokas, after the party liquidated the “order” and the Artūras Paulauskas movement “Forward , Lithuania “will join.
The new party, according to its leaders, currently unites more than 5,000. members, of which 3 thousand. from the former A. Zuokas party, 500 from the A. Paulauskas movement and around 1.7 thousand. former “organizers”.
