The Vilnius Rytas team may add to its ranks a high-ranking prospect, who recently left the struggles of the National Association of College Athletes (NCAA).
According to Krepsinis.net, the capital’s club is negotiating a long-term contract with a 208cm tall party that will celebrate its 23rd birthday on February 15. Rapolu Ivanausku.
The heavyweight forward recently announced his retirement from the Bearcats team at the University of Cincinnati. Coach John Brannen assured that the reasons for this decision were not related to basketball, the player’s decision was influenced by the situation caused by the coronavirus.
Lithuania scored 6.3 points (24 percent from 3-pointers), 5 rebounds and 0.3 assists in 21 minutes this season. For him, it’s a steep decline after last season’s Colgate University Raiders team, where he was one of the leaders and amassed 13.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 29 minutes.
R.Ivanauskas began his studies at Northwestern University in 2016, but spent the first season without basketball. After playing just three games in season two due to injury, he decided to move on to the Raiders. In 2020, he had already earned a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University, but took advantage of a condition that allows him to continue playing at another institution if certain academic requirements are met.
R.Ivanauskas, who has been in student basketball for five years, played only 79 games in total due to such circumstances.
In 2016, a Lithuanian was ranked the 89th most talented basketball player in the United States of America (USA) and the fifth most outstanding student in Illinois.
The Lithuanian Basketball Federation (LKF) has repeatedly invited R.Ivanauskas to youth teams of all ages and has made efforts to come, as the coaches saw that he was a very talented tall.
R.Ivanauskas can be proud that basketball runs through his blood: forward Tomas Ivanauskas has spent seven seasons in the Lithuanian Basketball League (Betsafe-LKL) at Alytus de Šilutė, and his cousin Deividas Dulkys currently plays in the club Baxi de Manresa in Spain.
