Officials from the Šilutė Wildlife Protection Inspectorate organized a raid after receiving information that illegal fishing is possible in the territory of the Nemunas Delta Regional Park, in the Krokai Lanka Zoological Botanical Reserve, on Lake Krokai Lanka with construction nets.
The information was confirmed: officials recorded how two people loaded objects brought from the water into the car on the water protection embankment of the Krokai Lake arch. Upon seeing the officers, the criminals exploded in hopes of concealing the items in their possession.
However, the individuals failed to fool the environmentalists and escaped. The officials detained them near an abandoned farm in a village in the Šilutė district. In the bags they found an inflatable rubber boat, 2 construction nets, 6 sea bream, pike, rope, 3 kilograms of crucian carp.
Police officers informed of the harassment also arrived at the place of detention of the offenders. It turned out that people who had been punished more than once for similar offenses were fishing illegally prohibited gear for non-hobbyists.
As a result of illegal fishing, administrative complaints of infringement of offenders, illegal catches, an inflatable boat and construction nets were seized. In addition to the fine, they will have to pay 985 EUR for environmental damage.
It also turned out that the person driving the car did not have a driver’s license, so the police officers drew up a protocol on driving without the right to do so.
