“You really don’t need additional motivation,” says Simas Galdikas firmly. Klaipėda captain “Neptūnas” is happy with basketball’s return to Lithuania and together with the team is preparing for the “Hoptrans 3×3” tournament, which will start in July.
S.Galdikas, Adomas Sidarevičius, Aidas Einikis, Klaidas Metrikis, Arūnas Mikalauskas and Matas Vaitkus will represent the port city team in the tournament that will take place in Palanga.
“It is good that there is an opportunity to participate in such a tournament. Many players miss the action that takes place on the basketball court and the support of the spectators. It transports us,” said S. Galdikas.
In the last Betsafe-LKL season, the Neptūnas captain scored 6.3 points and grabbed 2.6 rebounds.
S.Galdikas recently participated in the filming of the trailer clip for the Hoptrans 3×3 tournament, which will appear alongside Žygimantas Skučas, Artūras Jomantas and other well-known faces of Lithuanian basketball.
“The emotions on the shoot were good, we know each other very well,” said the Klaipeda resident. “The jokes were full of nostalgia for the days when we joked together in the locker room.”
In addition to S. Galdikas, five past and current representatives of the port city basketball pyramid will also wear Neptūnas jerseys at the upcoming Hoptrans 3×3 tournament.
Those interested in 3×3 basketball should be familiar with the name of A. Sidarevičius.
Last year, this defender became the 3×3 champion of European youth under the age of 18, and last season he represented the Klaipėda team “Neptūnas-Akvaservis” in the National Basketball League (NKL).
Neptūnas included two other students from the club system in the Hoptrans 3×3 tournament: K. Metrikis, who has already opened the doors for the main team, and 19-year-old defender M.Vaitkus.
Two other team members competing in the Hoptrans 3×3 tournament spent last season abroad.
A. Einikis, who has been improving at the Klaipeda basketball pyramid for a long time, represented the Benicarlo team in Spain, and A. Mikalauskas played for the Aris club in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands.
“I hope young people try to show initiative,” said S. Galdikas. “They’ll be able to shoot, and I’ll push under the basket, I’ll make sure no one wins.”
A veteran of the Klaipeda team emphasized that the game in 3×3 basketball is faster and more difficult, which, in his opinion, could benefit Klaipeda residents.
“We have to look for our advantages and ways to take advantage of the different rules. I think a great game is more convenient for me, because not all the touches will be emphasized,” said S. Galdikas.
The Hoptrans 3×3 tournament in Palanga will consist of three teams (July 3-4, 10-11, 16-17) and a final stage (July 24-25). The tournament prize pool is 74 thousand. euros
All the marches of the tournament will be broadcast live on TV6 TV.
