The Supreme Court of Lithuania (SCL) judge A.Norkūnas received the support of 64 members of the Seimas, there were 35 parliamentarians against his candidacy, 28 abstained.

According to the president of the Seimas TTK Stasys Šedbaras, the 8 members of the committee voted in favor of the candidacy of Algis Norkūnas to the judges of the CC.

There were 6 members of the Seimas TTK in favor, there were no voters before, 2 parliamentarians who worked on the committee abstained.

Stasys Šedbaras, president of the Seimas TTK, said that the committee that had examined the draft resolution on the appointment of G. Lastauskienė as judge of the CC on 13 January had approved it.

All 8 committee members participated in the vote. 7 voted in favor, there were no votes against, 1 member of the Seimas TTK abstained.

A.Kabišaitis: there is no reason to speak of anyone’s interest

The CC candidate A.Kabišaitis thanked the factions that met with him. He said ongoing discussions allow for reflection on work and improvement.

From the Seimas rostrum, he explained that he was not involved in any case or persons mentioned by the acting parliamentarian Vytautas Bakas. He called for a vote against the candidacy of A. Kabišaitis.

“This is really a place to talk about someone’s personal interest in my presence or absence, I think there would be no reason,” said A. Kabisaitis laconic.

Seimas Remigijus member Žemaitaitis said that for him, as a lawyer, it was painful and strange to hear statements about dishonesty and have various connections.

He stressed that if a person is guilty or suspicious, there are charges against the service that makes the suspicions.

According to R. Žemaitaitis, making accusations that the public interest is not protected is also strange and should not be done.

He called for a vote for A. Kabišaitis, who proved to be a loyal and trustworthy official throughout his working year.

The Seimas TTK did not pass

Stasys Šedbaras, president of the Seimas Law and Order Committee (TTK), reported that on January 13, the committee was considering a draft resolution on the appointment of A. Kabišaitis to the CC.

According to S. Shedbar, all 8 members of the committee voted in favor. 3 members of the Seimas TTK voted in favor, there were no voters, 5 abstentions.

Term ended in March

The mandate of three judges of the CC – the president of the Court Dainius Žalimas and the judges Gediminas Mesonis and Vytas Milius – ended on March 19.

They continue to work until new judges are appointed.

In preparation for the end of his term a year ago, G.Nausėda appointed a lawyer G.Lastauskienė to the CC, the then president of the Seimas Viktoras Pranckietis – former CC Chancellor Ingrid Danėlienė, and the acting president of the Supreme Court S.Rudėnaitė – a judge of this court A.Norkūnas.

The CC consists of nine judges appointed for nine years and for one term only.

The judges are appointed by the Seimas from among the candidates proposed by the president, the president of Parliament and the president of the Supreme Court.

The president of the CC is appointed from among the judges of this court by the Seimas at the proposal of the president.
