New Attorney General: I don’t want to share empty promises

“After taking the oath of office to the president and becoming attorney general, I do not want to share empty promises. Expect serious and hard work to increase public confidence in the prosecutor’s office, ensuring transparency when making important decisions that often change the fate of the people, ”said N. Grunskienė after his oath.

The Attorney General said that it was very important to her that people see the prosecution as she saw the institution.

“An open and fair institution with professional and dedicated people,” said N. Grunskienė.

The new attorney general was due to be sworn in on December 30, but it was later confirmed that she was infected with the coronavirus and the ceremony was postponed.

N. Grunskienė, who has been the head of the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office for the past seven years, replaces Evaldas Pašilis, who ended her five-year term on December 29, as Prosecutor General.

N. Grunskienė started his career in 1992 at the Kupiškis District Prosecutor’s Office, in 1998 he moved to the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office and rose up the professional ladder here.

During his 28 years as a prosecutor, he spent ten years in the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Division.

N. Grunskienė graduated from Vilnius University Faculty of Law. According to the Constitution, the Attorney General is appointed and removed by the President with the approval of the Seimas. Their mandate is five years.
