Call on the Government to lift some quarantine bans: it is not possible to ban everyone from working except large supermarkets

Some of the restrictions, according to the Social Democrats, are absurd and unjustifiably discriminate against small merchants and service providers, despite the fact that they can meet all the necessary safety and work requirements.

“The government’s approach to quarantine restrictions should change as soon as possible. There is no ban on working for almost everyone in a row, except for major supermarkets. This is absurd. Specialists who provide beauty services, such as hairdressers, small merchants and some other small businesses, they can meet all the necessary security requirements and renew their activities, ”says Orinta Leiputė, Deputy Elder of the Social Democratic Party faction of Seimas.

According to the parliamentarian, applications for permission to resume activities have been submitted to the Government by associations that unite beauty professionals, small merchants and people who trade in the market.

“Many people who work in these sectors now receive a benefit of € 260 and some do not. It is practically impossible to survive on that money, and many live from salary to salary.
Yes, some people have the opportunity to defer taxes, but that “discount” does not solve the problem of survival. If people can guarantee all safety requirements, they must be able to work, ”says O. Leiputė.

Algirdas Sys, the largest of the Social Democratic Party faction in the Seimas, emphasizes that the restrictions applied during the quarantine to almost everyone in a row, except for large supermarkets, are inadequate and disproportionate.

“Supermarkets are allowed to sell not only the most essential products, at the same time it is forbidden for small ones to do so. I believe that some small companies can cope with all the security requirements no worse than the big ones. Also, we see that many people are concentrating on supermarkets every day, which only increases the risk of spreading the virus. Therefore, non-applicable or non-working restrictions should be reviewed as soon as possible, ”says A. Sysas.

The politician adds that state support for the small or self-employed is not clear yet.

“Enterprise support packages are yet to be rolled out, there is no specificity of when and how support will arrive, or like last spring, you won’t get bogged down in various red tape completing requests, and the process takes a long time to get support “says Sys.
