M.Skuodis revoked the order on December 23, and A. Grinienė finished the work on January 5 by agreement of the parties, BNS was confirmed on Monday by Advisor to Minister Gabrielė Vasiliauskaitė.

A. Grinienė entered the contest and won it, but according to G.Vasiliauskaitė, the contest was terminated because its conditions did not specify that candidates had to speak English.

“The competition was canceled due to the lack of adequate qualification requirements for the head of the department, in particular, proficiency in English. This requirement is especially relevant for the Ministry to communicate and extend the dissemination of such information to foreign countries,” he stated G. Vasiliauskaitė to BNS.

According to her, a decision has not yet been made on the new head of the department: he can be appointed not only by competition, but also transferred from another ministry or state institution.

When asked why candidates are not required to speak English in the competition, the Civil Service Department asked the BNS last October that the scope of the position is public rather than international relations, so a foreign language is not is required.

In late November, the ministry told BNS that the two candidates with the highest scores had been selected for the competition, but did not name them.

According to the LRT, the competition for the position of Head of the Department of Communication of the Ministry could have been adapted to AVGriniene. He later denied participating in the competition, but declined to comment further.
