President Gitanas Nausda assures that the selection process of the new president of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Lithuania (LB) to replace the outgoing Vito Vasiliauskas has already begun. The president does not deny that one of his advisers may appear among the candidate.
In fact, we are now at the forefront of this process because we want the candidate to be the best. Therefore, as in the case of the Attorney General’s Office, several candidates are chosen, said G. Nausda in an interview.
According to the head of the country, the most interested candidates have already been planned and as soon as a specific candidate has been decided, the Seimas conciliation procedure will begin.
I will say at once that the position of the head of the LAC is not only responsible and important, but the circle of potential candidates is not so large because of the obvious focus, because there are certain restrictions that can be imposed, which is not possible, says the President.
When asked if the potential candidate is the Chief Economic and Social Advisor to the President of the LAC Board, Simonas Krpta, the Head of State responds: He could also be one of the serious candidates.
2019 S. Krpta, G. Nausda’s team, which began its mandate in the middle of the year, took over as Director of the Financial Stability Department of the Bank of Lithuania. He has held various positions at the Central Bank since 2008.
The second five-year term of V. Vasiliauskas as governor of LAC will end in April this year.
The president of the LAC Board is appointed by the Seimas on the proposal of the president.
