Reviewing the epidemiological situation, he highlighted that the incidence in Lithuania is still high, but there are some such positive changes compared to last week.
“The incidence rate and the number of cases detected on a daily basis have decreased slightly. The figures for the last few days are somewhat lower, but the morbidity rate is only one of the indicators that we evaluate when we talk about the situation. In comparison, a week ago the morbidity rate per 100 thousand population in the last 14 days, we had 1226, today it is 1005. However, it is one of the largest morbidities in Europe.
Another indicator by which we evaluate the epidemiological situation is the proportion of positive tests from all the studies carried out. And since the scope of the investigation after the holidays has now returned to normal, we see some of those changes.
If a week ago the proportion of positive tests was 21%, today we have 15%. And as for the change in these two indicators, this is the positive change that we were waiting for. But this is only the first week that we’re seeing positive numbers, so we don’t want to rejoice in advance. Therefore, the situation must be assessed with caution ”, said the specialist.
Deaths may not decline as quickly
However, he stressed that the situation is uneven in the different municipalities.
“In some of them, morbidity continues to grow, (…) so we cannot say that morbidity has decreased throughout Lithuania. It is necessary to assess separate territories, ”said L. Ašoklienė.
Commenting on the situation in hospitals, the epidemiologist said that there are no major changes here, the situation remains tense. In total, more than 2,2 thousand patients are treated in hospitals. patients.
At the same time, L. Ašoklienė cautioned that even if morbidity statistics change for the better, the decline in hospitalizations and deaths may not decrease as quickly:
“Volumes will remain at a similar level, so a lower hospital burden should not be expected in the coming weeks.”
At the same time, the epidemiologist warned that it is important to stay alert, comply with quarantine requirements and do so even outdoors.
“Especially after seeing people gathering in nature, parks and the discussions that started last weekend about the possibility of a higher or lower risk of infection outdoors, I would like to emphasize that the risk remains even in the air. It is a little smaller than when it comes to indoor spaces, but when you are outdoors, without maintaining safe distances, without wearing masks, the same risk still exists, “he said.
