“We immediately answer unequivocally: no, it is not allowed. Workers with a COVID-19 infection can ONLY return to work after receiving two negative COVID-19 test results,” says the IMI report.
IMI’s Cancer Information and Communication Unit was approached by a patient who was concerned about testing facility personnel for the COVID-19 procedure. For the sake of clarity and correct dissemination of information, we share the response publicly.
“Every week I visit the chemotherapy department of the day hospital. Everything is great. The nurses who work in the treatment rooms are very good, real professionals and very sincere. I really hope this is just a rumor / bogus rumor, but if not, are those with us “without immunity” working with a COVID-19 infection and still have positive tests with doctors? I don’t want to offend anyone, just such patient observations, allowing long 3 hours a.m. hallways. We are all very scared and every strange image or rumor is very disturbing. I wish everyone is healthy! ”Wrote the patient.
Go back to work with only 2 negative tests
Jolanta Ašembergienė, head of IMI’s Infection Control Division, highlights that the rumors that have reached the patient are completely unfounded and explains the current procedure at the institution.
“The National Cancer Institute is an exclusive medical institution in Lithuania that treats patients who are particularly sensitive to COVID-19 infection, so the current internal surveillance procedure is particularly strict. IMI staff can only return to work after a previous COVID-19 illness if they have two negative COVID-19 test results in a row. We emphasize that this is an internal procedure of our institution to protect patients and medical personnel as much as possible from the spread of the virus, ”the president reported.
Additionally, all IMI employees are routinely screened for COVID-19 twice a month, as well as upon return after a leave of absence or inability to work, and more frequently if necessary. Workers who still test positive for COVID-19 after an infection must work remotely.
