Earlier on Sunday, Lukashenko said in a television interview that a draft new constitution for Belarus would be ready by the end of 2021.

When asked when a referendum could take place, Mr. Lukashenko replied that it would be announced during the Belarusian People’s Congress.
Ms. Cichanouskaya participated in the presidential elections in Belarus after the Central Election Commission refused to register her husband’s Siarhei Cichanouski initiative group. S. Cichanouskis was later arrested.
Lukashenko, who has led the country since 1994, has been declared the winner of the August 9 elections. According to official data, S. Cichanouskaya collected just over 10 percent. votes and was second, but the opposition and the West say the election results were rigged.
