For the needs of the Lithuanian state, 70 instantaneous speed meters (MGM) have been prepared on the network, which record the speed of vehicles moving in both directions, verify the validity of technical circuits, civil liability insurance and various user fee payments.
According to Remigijus Lipkeviius, Director of the Directorate of V Lithuanian Automobile, the purpose of the installed speedometer network is not to punish. The most important goal is to ensure traffic safety by changing the painful number of traffic accidents, to encourage drivers on the road to behave responsibly, to drive at the permitted speed.
According to various addresses of the Lithuanian Automobile Association, MGMs are usually organized in places where there is a higher risk of harming road users, such as settlements near schools, crossroads or intersections, educational establishments, religious gathering places, dangerous intersections, junctions and other relevant objects. , in which regular flows of psij and / or cyclists are expected.
MGMs are based on criteria such as settlement type, location, formal education facilities, traffic volume, existing speed management tools and statistics, forcing drivers to stop in one place and reduce the accident risk.
In addition to the previous 70 MGMs, 50 (25 sections) are currently operating on Lithuanian state roads and average speed measurement systems (VGMS) are being installed. According to the current number of contracts executed by the Lithuanian V Car Directorate, a further 106 VGMS sections (ie 212 events) should be gradually implemented.
