Britain prepares to vaccinate the population with AstraZeneca

The country will initially receive half a million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The first shipments arrived at the vaccination centers over the weekend. NHS chief Simon Stevens called it “a very important step in humanity’s fight against the coronavirus.” Unlike Pfizer and Biontech vaccines, the British product can be stored in the refrigerator, making it easy to transport and store.

In the UK, vaccines are administered primarily to the elderly, as well as to nursing home staff and medical staff. With the new strategy, the country wants to dramatically increase the number of people who would receive at least the first dose of the vaccine. They would not receive the second dose of the vaccine after 12 weeks, but not as originally planned, after three weeks. As a result, more patients at risk will be protected against the virus sooner.
