As the Minister of the Interior, Agnė Bilotait dijo, said in the press conference held after the meeting, which will be different throughout January than it was during the holiday weekends.

“Yesterday it was decided to extend the restrictions between the municipalities until January 31, provided they are reviewed on January 17. It should be noted that today the police department is organizing a meeting, a specific plan with specific measures will be prepared, it will be presented to the Interior Ministry.

After evaluating our lessons, what happened during the festive period, it was decided to abandon the use of template methods, there will be more surprises, “said A. Bilotaitė, referring to the specific and clear working hours of the positions.

“Of course, the same fixed and mobile poles will work. And taking into account the different situations of the municipalities, separate solutions will be prepared. (…) The use of certain information technologies is being considered, but this plan is currently being prepared and it will be presented to the Ministry of the Interior in the near future, ”said Interior Minister A. Bilotaitė.

The minister said WESC on Monday did not discuss a possible extension of the quarantine beyond January 31.

“Today we heard the information, it was not very additional or more recent, because yesterday we also had a meeting. Based on the information provided yesterday and the arguments provided by the experts, we decided to extend the restrictions between the municipalities. That was our goal. (…) There were no discussions on that subject, ”said A. Bilotaitė about the possible extension of the quarantine.

The interior minister said police representatives would discuss restrictions to facilitate movement of residents in the ring municipalities.

“Today, the meeting that is taking place in the police department will definitely consider possible measures, places of positions to minimize the problems of the population. But it is also very important for us to make sure that people do not abuse, we will really seek a compromise, ”said the Interior Minister.

Commissioner General Renatas Požėla said that the situation in the police department is under control.

“There is adequate work planning, some use of our reserve. I cannot say within the organization itself by sounding the alarms that something is no longer happening. We are ringing the alarm bells that we constantly have between 300 and 400 officers who are in self-isolation, which is a big hurdle. But our functions are performed completely and efficiently enough, “said R. Požėla.

He said that he feels fatigued, but the system is not overloaded.

“Naturally, the best athlete who runs a marathon feels better at the start of the marathon. The same goes for the capabilities of the organization. That’s right, people feel signs of fatigue. But I really don’t think we can sound the alarms very clearly, that the system is overloaded, “he said.

R. Požėla stated that the procedure of restrictions on movement between the municipalities of the country is being modified due to the violators of this procedure.

“It just came to our notice then. We assume that the majority of the population meets all the requirements, it doesn’t even matter to the residents where and when those posts will be or where they will be. We were more alarmed by that number. I think we can talk to trust of about 100 thousand citizens who tried to enter another municipality. (…) Furthermore, we have no doubt that there were also people who broke into other roads on other days. Therefore, we see the need for modified methods “, he said the Commissioner General.

Požėla said that it had been decided not to announce in advance where the police officers would work during January.

“It just came to our attention then. We’re just talking about checking locking points installation places, time, we will not inform you in advance. These measures will be applied on a fairly large scale, that is a fact, ”said the Commissioner General.

The Police Commissioner General said officers would make greater use of the tools already available and that vehicle registration numbers would also be verified.

“Due to the information technology in our possession, it will definitely improve the mobile application that we use to identify the vehicle by license plates. Also, to determine whether a particular vehicle could have been delivered once, here is our departmental request, which we have, “said R. Požėla at the press conference.

However, no new mobile apps and video surveillance cameras are expected to be developed on the roads during January.

“It just came to our knowledge then. We will try to create, but time is not our ally, it is not a matter of days or weeks. But the country needs to return to the development of a universal declaration system. Because it is the applications that we mentioned that they are related to the voluntary system of declaration of persons ”, said R. Požėla.

He later said that such an app is not expected to be developed in January.

To control the spread of the coronavirus, a second quarantine has been introduced in the country since November 7 and is currently valid until January 31.

As the situation in COVID-19 deteriorated, quarantine conditions tightened: non-food stores that were not pharmacies were banned, contact services were banned, and gatherings of people were restricted.

During the festive period, the movement of people between municipalities was also limited, and the government extended this measure on Sunday until the end of January.
