360 years ago Vilnius was liberated from the Moscow army

1661 In July, the army led by Mykolas Kazimieras Pacas finally drove the Moscow army out of Vilnius. he had occupied the city. It is true that much of the city was reconquered by the GDL army around 1660, but the Muscovites continued to settle in the castles.

190 years of uprising against the Russian Empire

1830 An uprising against the Russian Empire began in Warsaw in 1831. It expanded to Lithuania. The aim of the rebels was to restore the ATR, and some of the commanders tried to abolish the servitude. Initially, the rebels achieved important victories and in 1831. in April they occupied most of Lithuania.

The rebels besieged Vilnius, but failed to occupy the city. The reinforcement of the Russian army sent from Minsk, Daugavpils and other cities reconquered the territories occupied by the rebels.

Finally, in 1831. June 12 the rebels suffered a major defeat in the battles of Paneriai near Vilnius. The uprising collapsed and many rebels were killed or exiled. Lithuania faces severe repression.

The war was won by the northern states of the United States and slavery was abolished.

Germany joined 150 years ago
