Great force of officials
At the press conference, Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė said she believed all measures would be soft.
“We have to be really prepared. I must say that our police officers are also ready, about 7.5 thousand of them will be present during the weekend, a couple thousand every day. Our social partners will also participate actively, there will be around 1.6 thousand of them, which we hope will be without problems ”, said the Minister.
A. Bilotaitė once again asked residents to be responsible on New Year’s Eve.
“Do not give yourself a short-term gift of COVID-19. (…) The police are willing to ensure not only the control of the stables, but that there will be a lot of attention to public places and their control,” promised A. Bilotaitė .
“During the last two weekends, a very large force of Lithuanian officials participated, around 19 thousand officials. Our partners, the Riflemen’s Union, also actively participate, there were around 1.6 thousand”, the minister presented. .
About 7,200 policemen will work this weekend, assisted by officials from other statutory services of the Ministry of the Interior – State Border Guard, Public Security, Investigation of Financial Crimes – as well as firefighters, police sympathizers, the Riflemen’s Union and the Military Police.
How will the parties stop?
Police Commissioner General Renatas Požėla said government-imposed bans and restrictions were working well.
“In our opinion, this third stage will be the most difficult, we have a New Year’s night ahead of us. We believe that the control of movement between municipalities works effectively, which is shown in objective data, the movement between municipalities has decreased by around 80 percent. We are working on the insurance in its entirety and it is paying off, ”said R. Požėla.
He also identified the biggest possible threats this long weekend.
“Where we see challenges and threats is the movement of people and vehicles within the municipality itself. The first challenge is this day and night, which involves the operation of supermarkets and individuals who try to take advantage of that last minute purchase of merchandise, shopping. The police reserve the right and we plan to monitor this situation ”, promised the commissioner general.
He also spoke of possible parties in private spaces.
“Therefore, we appeal to the entire population once again, asking for understanding and citizenship; if you see these types of meetings, inform the police.” The police will close such an event, “said R. Požėla.
He explained that when the police arrive and an infraction is registered in a private space, protocols are written not only to the owner, but to all the people who attend the party.
“And the main thing is that the police will abandon that call only if they are really convinced that the party is interrupted,” announced R. Požėla.
Not all municipalities join
Police are preparing to stop any possible gathering in public spaces. However, so far not all municipalities in the country have agreed to implement the police recommendations.
“We are pleased that the vast majority of municipalities have taken these measures. I would like to highlight the municipality of Palanga and the mayor, where additional measures are planned and implemented on their own initiative. But today we have around 12 municipalities that still doubt that they are working to implement these measures ”, R. Požėla presented the current situation.
He said that municipalities that do not take recommendations and the situation is not going to eat, may face other inconveniences.
“It is possible that after this weekend protocols will be born for municipal officials, if we see obvious violations,” he promised.
At a press conference, he did not want to reveal which municipalities they were talking about. The Commissioner General hoped that these municipalities would change their minds.
The Vilnius fir is fenced, traffic to it will be prohibited
Vilnius County Police Chief Saulius Gagas was pleased that all Vilnius County municipalities decided to fence the Christmas trees and not allow fireworks.
“We can be glad that in Vilnius County all municipalities have decided to put out the Christmas trees on New Year’s Eve and not allow fireworks, I am happy about that. As night approaches, traffic will be banned in Vilnius towards the Christmas tree built in the Cathedral Square: Barbora Radvilaitė, Šventaragio, Žygimantų, Vrublevskio streets. The spruce is blocked. And not unnecessarily, the police recorded an incident yesterday, during which a citizen tried to climb a fir tree, ”Gag said.
He said that the actions of this person would be evaluated under the Code of Administrative Offenses.
“We will really have a lot of work on New Year’s night, so the force in Vilnius is at its maximum. (…) Everyone’s goal is to guarantee control of the entrance, the response to violations of public order, control of violations of quarantine rules, ”said the Vilnius County Police Chief.
It is not only forbidden to drive, but also to park around the Vilnius Cathedral Square.
“Traffic will be prohibited from 22:30 to 1:30. In the city of Vilnius. And I would also like to point out that parking in the surrounding streets is also prohibited, public transport will also not lead to the city center. These are the people who, perhaps until now, have planned to go there as usual, so we suggest not to. Because traffic jams can occur, they will turn around and the New Year may have to be welcomed in the cars ”Gag said.
On Christmas weekend, the police turned almost 16.5 thousand. cars
