It is true that the amounts in online advertisements are not bitten by everyone, because the prices of the cheapest devices reach almost 400 euros.
Tv3.lt has previously announced an unexpected move: In the wake of the pandemic, more and more people began to rent oxygen equipment from their homes and families.
“Many people want to buy out of fear to have security at home, they want to rent. We cannot and do not rent to those who don’t really need it, because we keep it for those who really need it, ”Renata Ragaišienė, director of the Deguonies sistemos company, told TV3 News.
This oxygen equipment rental price can vary from 40 to several hundred euros per month, depending on the company. For those to whom a doctor prescribes oxygen treatment, this amount is paid by the Mandatory Medical Insurance Fund (PSDF).
However, as the end of the year approaches, the confusion will not end: entrepreneurs admit that they no longer have oxygen equipment to rent or sell, and the closest inbound shipments will go to medical institutions and residences.
All oxygen equipment rented
Edita Želvienė, director of the Teida company, which sells and rents medical items, including oxygen devices, admits that the demand for devices has increased significantly due to the pandemic. However, in his opinion, it is difficult to assess who really needs the device and who wants to buy it just as cover.
“It is difficult to say when there is prevention and when treatment is needed. You see, if there are many elderly people in and around your family, it is natural that sooner or later you need that oxygen. Oxygen is often used not only for the treatment of respiratory diseases, but also for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Oxygen is life, ”says E. Želvienė.
Although in the past it was possible to rent equipment in the company without a medical certificate, now the interviewee recognizes that every time he receives an application he has to ask himself if the oxygen treatment is really prescribed by a doctor.
“It just came to our knowledge then. Oxygen must be administered, the person knows their dose, how much they need. For now, we have to control that treatment and everything else in some way,” explains the businesswoman.
Despite the strict controls, both Teida and almost all the other companies that sell oxygen devices are already announcing that they no longer have the devices, and it will not be known when they will be able to give them to individuals again.
“Currently, we will receive a new batch in January, and practically medical institutions and nursing institutions have already reserved these devices,” says E. Želvienė.
Oxygen concentrators are not purchased very often with personal funds during the non-pandemic period, and the new prices can reach several thousand euros. Additionally, you may also need to purchase additional accessories for each device, such as a tubing, oxygen humidifier, oxygen cylinder, or pulse oximeter.
Sales are made both on advertising portals and on social networks.
Those who can no longer buy oxygen devices from official sellers turn to straw and search for devices on social media and advertising portals.
In recent weeks, this type of disc has become more and more widespread in various groups, and oxygen devices have been searched and resold and rented.
“Do you know who needs an oxygen machine? Very good for getting sick covidu. We can sell, rent, etc. Share everything please. We are not afraid. We use it ourselves for 2 weeks ”, writes a man on the social network.
Oxygen devices for sale can also be found on the most popular advertising portals. In fact, they cannot be purchased here with PSDF compensation, and the requested amounts start from € 400 and the most expensive used machine is sold for € 4,200.
However, even the oxygen concentrators that are sold on the advertising portals do not stay for long: the cheapest ones disappear in a day.
Professor Edvard Danila, head of the Santara Clinics Pneumology Center, warns all those in a rush to buy oxygen devices: oxygen devices should be prescribed to patients only with the knowledge of the doctor. Otherwise, the person can heal.
“There is no way to think about yourself, buy, spin everything you want, because excess oxygen damages cells, causes oxidative stress and can, you will be surprised, increase the number of deaths”, explains Danila to TV3.
