“The best example is complying with the applicable requirements and they were observed by both the president and his relatives,” S. Krėpšta said Tuesday on the air of Knowledge.

He stressed that the government had restricted communication between individual households within the country.

“There are clear movement restrictions in the country, communication restrictions between two households within the country due to the extremely high prevalence of the virus in the country. <...> And such meetings, when the prevalence of the virus in the country is very high, further increase the possibility of contagion of the virus in close communication, “said the adviser.

S.Krėpšta also discussed the situation of the prevalence of COVID-19 in Germany, from where Nausėdai’s daughter returned. It is much better there than in Lithuania.

Regarding this particular case, the president’s daughter returned from Germany, a country where the prevalence of the virus is currently four times lower than in Lithuania. Germany is not on the list of affected countries and has met all the requirements.

“The only person for whom she could pose a risk when she returns is herself, because she returned from a country where the virus, as I said, is four times less prevalent,” said the president’s adviser.

When asked whether the government’s decision to allow citizens to come from abroad but restrict movement between municipalities was appropriate to manage the COVID-19 pandemic, S. Krėpšta recounted the current procedure.

All the decisions that the Government makes are, of course, based on the opinion of experts, and we see that they are very similar to other states. <...> The chosen model is such that if you return from an affected country, one where the prevalence of the virus is also high, close to the prevalence in Lithuania, then it is necessary to take all isolation measures, do not move, be at home, have a test negative. If you return from a country that is not on the list of affected countries <...>“So the procedure is different, isolation is not necessary because the spread of the virus from those countries where the virus is less prevalent is very low,” he said.

According to S. Krėpšta, the president believes that the stricter quarantine restrictions imposed by the government in general are adequate for now, but it takes time to see if they work.

Lithuania is one of the countries most affected by COVID-19 in Europe. In response, the government extended the quarantine regime for COVID-19 until January 31 and tightened its conditions.

The government restricted movement between municipalities and established exceptions. One of them is allowed to move to or from airports, seaports, bus stations serving international passenger routes.

Communication is also limited: it is allowed to do it between them only in a family and / or a home.
