Municipalities will be offered to give up New Year’s fireworks and put out Christmas trees, says Police Commissioner General Renatas Požėla.
“We strongly believe that there should be no centralized fireworks firing. Another proposal that would discourage people from choosing Christmas trees, central locations, to physically extinguish Christmas trees during that New Year’s consent so that they don’t shine or invite choice, “R. Požėla told reporters on Monday after the meeting of the Government Emergency Commission.
“Another thing is the fencing of Christmas trees in central places, the restriction of traffic,” added the official.
According to him, such proposals will be discussed with the municipalities, because during the Christmas period it was observed that most of the quarantine violations were found precisely because of the encounter.
“What is worrying and what we are really going to pay attention to during the new year is the gathering of people in public places suitable for rest and recreation: parks, beaches. Seeing that it is forbidden to go to another municipality, they look for public spaces for active recreation and many people crowd at the same time. We can certainly see that the individuals without masks are there, wearing masks in an irregular manner, gathered together. It was a long weekend problem here, one of them, ”said the police chief.
He stressed that the closure of parks is not proposed as it would be a radical solution.
“I am referring more to the organization of our work. (…) Next Saturday, Sunday, we plan more our capacities, which would come physically and would be in public spaces and with the help of a speaker, they would avoid possible quarantine violations with their presence ”, said R. Požėla.
However, he noted that the imposed movement restrictions were working.
“The video surveillance systems installed on the country’s main highways (…) show that traffic flows have been reduced by 80 percent. This shows that the bans have achieved their goal of reducing population mobility, ”he said.
As Ramūnas Matonis, a representative from the Police Department, previously told BNS, the data collected from December 15 to 25 was compared to the corresponding period last year.
According to R. Požėla, 151 drunk drivers were arrested during the Christmas period, compared to 230 last year.
“We didn’t really bond because we stopped less, but because there was less in public traffic,” the official commented.
Since Christmas Eve, the strengthening of movement control between municipalities has left more than 16 thousand people at the checkpoints. cars. During this period, 525 protocols for non-compliance with quarantine requirements were also developed.
