Veryga: “very, very high probability” that the quarantine ends in mid-June

“We are likely to finish, but the extreme situation will still persist, because the risks persist,” Veryga said of Delfi Diena.

When asked about the probability of the quarantine ending in mid-June, the minister replied that there was a “very, very high probability”, but did not take into account the percentage.

“Guessing is very ungrateful, but from what we see, from the weekly monitoring, when the indicators are confirmed, three out of four are good, (…) hopefully things will go well, and the government will decide to lift the quarantine,” Veryga said.

Delfi recalls that the quarantine in Lithuania currently runs until June 16.

The crisis has revealed weaknesses.

When asked about the cost of the quarantine, the Minister emphasized that it would first be necessary to assess what price the public would have had to pay if there had been no quarantine.

The minister said he did not dispute that the situation where some children even lacked hot food during quarantine was a problem.

“We have also seen in our system some of the problems we talked about earlier: the lack of doctors in the regions, a certain unsustainable network of institutions, all of which we have seen in all seriousness. Each crisis highlights the weaknesses,” said A Veryga, adding that Lithuania has a unique opportunity to advance.

Veryga: tests paid, not too late

The Minister does not believe it is too late to make paid evidence available to people.

“I think a very small number of people will use paid tests. Let’s keep in mind that there are customization opportunities that were not needed before. Now the Soccer League wants to pay and explore its players.

Before it was not possible to organize competitions, so who needed to investigate footballers? There is an investigation logic. People who would do it out of fear don’t have to run to the lab and do the tests. We do certain sample checks ourselves to see if there are any outbreaks, certain groups are being tested, if the number starts to grow there, the volumes will expand again, “said A. Veryga.

In general, the Minister was reluctant to speak about errors in the control of the coronavirus. According to A. Veryga, there were lessons that the parties had to learn. One of the lessons he mentioned was the previously widespread perception in Europe that infectious diseases are a thing of the past and underdeveloped infrastructure in this area.

When asked about the total number of deaths during the quarantine, the minister said
overall mortality does not exceed the statistical average. He assured that the authorities will have more detailed data, as usual, at the end of the year.

The preparation of institutions for work is a cause for concern.

The Minister reiterated that he was concerned that some medical institutions were not in a hurry to resume scheduled services. He also reacted to the idea expressed by the head of the Lithuanian Medical Movement Živilė Gudlevičienė on Tuesday during the meeting of the Christian Democratic faction of the Homeland Union of Seimas that the harassment is occurring in the highest strata.

“I also have an evaluation of the Medical Movement. I think it is a two or three person organization that unfortunately I think is involved in political activities, and it does it with certain groups and political currents. I don’t really remember a constructive conversation to get anyone to endorse or support this group, “said A. Veryha.

At the same time, the minister said it was strange to say that “the requirement to prepare infection control plans and start work for which one-twelfth is paid, and further increases in rates to increase wages, are mobbing” .

“If demanding work is mobbing, what is immobile? What the minister has to do is see that the institutions are not working, despite the fact that the situation has improved a lot and the patients are waiting for the services. (…) Now we have voluntarily decided that if the institutions do not continue updating the scheduled services, we will no longer pay a twelfth, there will be a charge for the fact. Maybe it’s an incentive for some to start working, “said A. Veryga.
