Czechs caught the coronavirus
As Kancius said, it became clear on Saturday night that the two Czech mechanics who had to look after their ATV in Dakar would not be able to go. At the Dakar Rally, the Czech team, which prepared the ATV for the rally, will also take over technical support for the ATV.
“It just came to our notice then. Yesterday at 10 pm we found out that our Czech mechanic we have two both positive. During the night we had the great challenge of finding something, finding new ones. We will see how we do it here. Of course, it will be difficult to introduce new people to the rhythm, to do everything in a few days, but the rules are the same for everyone, ”said L. Kancius.
New mechanics found in the Czech Republic.
Asked about the mood before the trip to Saudi Arabia, the ATV made no secret that the Dakar was a real challenge for everyone this year, there was no shortage of stress for everyone.
“We have to pass another exam in Jeddah, but we hope everything is fine,” Kancius said of the COVID-19 test after two days of quarantine in Saudi Arabia.
L. Kancius will start at start number 176 of the Dakar Rally, which will begin on January 3. A total of 28 participants will start in the ATV class, and L. Kancius is the first representative from Lithuania to start in it, and one of two ATVs that will be traveling in Dakar for the first time this year.
Ride for a long time
A 36-year-old Klaipeda resident told iGo2Dakar a little earlier that the ATV had appeared in his life long enough, but for a long time it was just a way to spend active free time. Over time, he had a desire to take his passion for adrenaline and off-road vehicles to a higher level, and the man began looking for something that could help him in Lithuania.
L. Kancius long sought ATV competition. In the end, when an agreement was reached on the production of ATVs in the Czech Republic, it was necessary to decide what they should be: each element can be very different, from its durability, quality and influence on the trip to a different price.
“I bought a new Yamaha Raptor 700 and we discussed with the check what work it will have to do. A lot of things had to be redesigned or replaced: from the original motorcycle only most of the frame and part of the engine remained. After doing all the work, I already had the opportunity to test my ATV at the Rally Andalusia, everything went well, and it would be difficult to compare an entertaining and professionally prepared ATV: the differences in handling are incredible.
It is true that the rally revealed some of those problems: on the last day, the fastening element of the road book broke. After finishing there, I returned to Lithuania and the ATV returned to the workshop in the Czech Republic, where not only was the broken structure repaired, but all necessary knot inspections were carried out before the Dakar Rally, ”continued L. Kancius his story.
Before the Dakar, Vaidotas Damage also had to look for new mechanics.
Gintas Petrus was forced to search for a new co-pilot.
