Gave hope
As the qualified doctor professor Renaldas Jurkevičius, general director of the Kaunas Clinics, said at the remote press conference, the vaccination of doctors, who are on the most dangerous front lines, started on Sunday and this day is a great celebration for the medical community.
“People have been working for a long time in the hope that the time will come, that there will be a time in this war, when there will be a breakthrough: a vaccine. Tomorrow we are going to vaccinate not only the employees of the Kaunas clinics and the Kaunas hospital, but also the doctors in the Kaunas region, for whom the Kaunas clinics, that is, 11 hospitals, are responsible, ”said the Professor R. Jurkevičius on Sunday morning.
Vaccine for coronavirus
According to the professor, about 3,000 vaccines reached the Kaunas clinics.
These first doses are scheduled to be taken within 3 days: Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Approximately 500 doctors will be vaccinated at the Kaunas Hospital in the first stage and 1,500 at the Kaunas clinics.
Feel pride and elevation
The first vaccinated nurse, J. Litvinienė, also spoke at the press conference.
“I feel great. The procedure itself was completely painless, just a simple vaccination procedure. But I am proud and encouraged that we finally have what will help us manage this huge pandemic.
When I work with COVID-19 patients, I feel great joy that we finally have the means to fight, ”said J. Litvinienė adding that it will be more courageous to go back to work psychologically now, but we must not forget that immunity will need a second vaccine .
According to the doctor, the vaccination procedure was completely normal, as for other diseases.
When asked if there was any doubt about the vaccine, J. Litvinienė did not hide: “There were doubts maybe half a year ago, when it was only said that there would be a vaccine of this type when it was developed. But when I started working with these patients and the staff that work together, there was no question, I had a choice and I chose.
Vaccination in other hospitals on Monday
Professor R. Jurkevičius urged all Lithuanians not to be afraid and to get vaccinated as soon as the opportunity arises, because only in this way would it be possible to protect themselves from the virus.
