Russian President Vladimir Putin signs the law, granting immunity to Russian presidents and members.
the law is one of the proposed constitutional amendments passed in a summer referendum.

Under the new law, the outgoing president will not be prosecuted or administratively responsible, he will not be detained, arrested, searched, questioned or interrogated.
The inviolability of the former head of state will also guarantee the inviolability of his residence or office space, his vehicles, means of communication, documents and luggage that belong to him and his remains, provided for in the new law.
In addition, the denial of the immunity of the former president is regulated by article 93 of the new constitution.
The law stipulates that the president of Russia, upon leaving the office of president, can lose his immunity only by decision of the Federation Council, if the Parliament (Dma) accuses him of treason to the state or another serious crime.
However, these charges must be confirmed by the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
The law also stipulates that a motion to impeach the president must be passed by at least two-thirds of the deputies in both houses of parliament. The waiver of the immunity of the former president may be initiated by at least one third of the deputies of the State Duma, after the formation of a special commission.
The decision of the Federation Council to suspend the immunity of the former president must be taken no later than three months after the Dma accuses him. If no decision is made within that time, the charges will be deemed rejected.
