On Tuesday, the Seimas accepted the amendments to the Charity and Support Act proposed by Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė and the Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee Mykolas Majauskas.
“We are talking mainly about services and tools,” said the prime minister in the Seimas. He proposed that the amendment be adopted with extreme urgency. They will be discussed on Tuesday night.
Kęstutis Glaveckas, a member of a mixed group of Seimas members, saw opportunities to abuse and “legalize money with lower taxes through charity.”
If the amendments were adopted, residents would not be obliged to keep supporting records, inform the State Tax Inspectorate about the support received and its use.
The beneficiaries can now be charitable and support foundations, budgetary and public institutions, associations, religious communities, divisions (divisions) of international public organizations, Lithuanian communities established abroad and other Lithuanian institutions or organizations registered in Lithuania. The beneficiaries of natural persons can be holders of the condition of artist.
